Ping is the amount of time it takes for your "information packets" to travel to the server and back to you. The lower the Ping, the faster it does it, the better connection/less lag you will have on that server.
You generally want a ping of less than 30ms.

This is college wifi. It was horrible just a week ago due to problems of some sort. As in constantly disconnecting and not working when it did connect.
