[MC] Serpent City Ship Competition

mountainboy965

Well-Known Member
ATTENTION! All Residents of Serpents Pass.

Prize: 64 diamonds
Length of Event
Begins: December 4
Ends: January 4th, 11:59 (Mountain Side Time)

What: Build a ship someone in the Serpent Pass Map. This encompasses all ships- rocketships, boats, cruiseships, airships, and any other kind of "ship."

Rules: Keep in mind that there are lots of different styles in the map. If you decide to build a particular style, try to build it closer to other builds that are similar in style. Don't build next to builds that are competing style-wise.
Do not build within 50 blocks of the portal. Keep it classy (no swasipenis)

As always (the #1 rule in SP), make it look nice!!!

How to Win: Build an awesome super-duper ship!

Criteria used for Judging:

On the last competition, I used 4 criteria to grade the builds. This time, I will only use the following 3-
Detail-
Uniqueness-
Completeness-
I use a scale of 1-10, with 1 being the worst and 10 being the best.

Additional: Post a pic in this thread when you complete your ship or to update us on the progress of your ship!

Previous Winners-

Balloon Contest: Kimbal (20 diamonds)
Water-Well Contest: Metroid (10 diamonds)
House Contest: Tsysin (45 diamonds)

Here is a reference for those of you struggling to build a hull of a ship

Take note of the shape. The bottom of the boat is more flat and buldgey at the center of the vessel, but then gets more thin and pointy at either extreme.
The principle to keep in mind is buoyancy. If you were to visualize floating your ship in water, what shape would best prevent it from tipping over?
Have you ever ridden in a canoe? Do you remember how it was shaped? Exact same principle.

So far, I count 5 ships being built- Lacar, Havochron, Constructor, Sheepoman, and mine. I think Aqua is also getting ready to build his. I'm excited to see where this competition is gonna go!

Just a couple of screen-shots of my just completed Air-Ship, "The Elven Queen"

This isn't my entry, but I thought I'd show it off anyways.

It is inspired by Mcholypotato's map "Coghaven."

The Empire's ship progress after 5 days time.
(Picture taken from the Dynmap because the server's view distance is nowhere near far enough to see it all)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Edit1: More progress has been made on the ship. Impressive how much can get done in 1 day.

But the Dynmap really doesn't do that Radio Comms Antenna any justice.

I borrowed a section of the map and ported it to singleplayer to grab some screenshots with a 32 chunk render distance, so people can get a better idea of it's scale.

Fully Functional TNT Cannon

*Check*

Note it is currently not loaded, but it's the automatic reloading kind. Thanks to Ablisa and Canacona for testing Risking their lives with me to fire it for the inaugural shot.

Updated Bomb Bay shots...24 Bays for a total of over 300 TNT blocks and the head of each bomb is an Iron Block

Views of the bomb Bays from Below at night (dirt scaffolding has now been removed after this picture)

Picture of TNT cannon on the nose of the ship (note I corrected the slight block count error after this photo was taken)

Currently adding 'warning, do not cross' floor paint near the bottom of the bomb bays, removing all torches and scaffoldings.
