Finally, I decided to update some of the security here at DarkFX. Although I can't take credit for the awsome protection mods we now have, I can guarantee you that they will make the server much, much better.
To start off, I have installed SteamBans (from SteamBans.com):
The way it works, is that whenever a player connects, it checks their steamid against a VERY large list of banned steamids which is managed by SteamBans.com. They have loads of hackers in their database, but they strictly review every case before accepting it, so you can be sure that the banned players that they have, were really banned.
I have also installed an awsome peice of software from TheZProject.org called HLGuard. In short, HLGuard does the following things:
1. Detects and permanantly bans players who have aim/speed/wall/multi hacks installed
2. Completely prevents wall hacks from working, in the event that it is not caught, by not sending player position updates when you cant see the other person
3. Gives temporary bans (24 hours) to players with namehacks (changing name constantly) or rapidfire hacks (shooting pistols faster than you can physically click a mouse)
I can almost guarantee you that from now on, the server will be hacker free. Have fun!
