Sounds like maybe a toned down version of eve-online. Monthly fee? kthxbai. Also when he says remote galaxies forever lost to red shift, does he mean lost to the expansion of the universe or lost to the second law of thermodynamics? @_o I dun get it.

I think it's both, kinda sorta maybe. He does put up a disclaimer that he is not a scientist and anyone who is an expert in any field is welcome to provide any necessary corrections.

Notch has been tweeting about this since forever! I was wondering what the heck he was building a 16-bit computer emulator for... I must say it looks quite interesting. But being pay to play does not interest me at all.

"The cost of the game is still undecided, but it's likely there will be a monthly fee for joining the Multiverse as we are going to emulate all computers and physics even when players aren't logged in. Single player won't have any recurring fees."

Honestly, I think I'm ok with the subscription to Multiplayer. At least it's straight-up honest pay-to-play. Otherwise, they'll be relying on cheap gimmicks like an online store that sells hats for your characters. Works for TF2, but I doubt it would work for this.

Or we could just host our own servers.
