1980 Battles - Kim Carnes vs Rod Stewart

Pretty close indeed to this untrained ear.

My opinion is not learned, but, as a headphones user, I do notice that Stewart's voice is just slightly lower pitched than Carnes' voice. The lower pitch is more noticeable towards the end of Stewart's song.

Ask one who lived this time (yes I'm old). I'd like to throw in Bonnie Tyler's "It's a heartache" which was also performed by Rod Stewart.

Damn, give these people a fricking cough drop or STOP SMOKING.

lol, seriously...

if you're looking for what a trained ear is picking up;

i'm specifically hearing a drier, harsher vocal quality with Rod Stewart's style of singing, where he's belting out his voice from his diaphragm.

On the other hand, Kim Carnes has a more melodic quality to her style, but you're getting more of her throat range in terms of singing. she's putting a LOT of air in her voice and doesn't have the raw force of vocal amplitude like Rob's voice in his video.

Because both referenced videos are not "concert live" performances, it would be hard to make any further detailed comparisons unless you posted links to live performances, or to the recorded tracks from their released albums.
