Among The Sleep

I know I haven't been around much lately and I don't think that is going to change anytime soon as I just started volunteering at our local Zoo, but I will try to be around as much as possible.

For now, though, I came across this Kotaku Article today and I was immediately intrigued and upon further investigation I would like to express my excitement for this upcoming title from Krillbite Studios, it's called: Among The Sleep. A first person horror experience from the view point of a two year old.

Most of us have a vague familiarity of our toddler-hood so lets try to imagine yester-years, laying in your dark room trying to sleep and strange things start to happen and your imagination takes over and you start thinking about all of the horrible monsters that were standing in that room with you, plotting on how they were going to kill and maim your little body so that not even your own parents would recognize you.....Maybe that was just me? Either way it is looking like Krillbite is taking that very concept and running full speed with it.

Hamar-based Krill Bite Studio has a unique game in progress. It's called Among The Sleep , and gives you the role of a two year old child. One night, after you have been laid in bed as usual, strange things begin to happen around you. Is it just your imagination playing tricks on you or have you ended up in the middle of a remake of Poltergeist?

The game lets you experience the world from the child's point of view, providing plenty of exploration of both familiar and unfamiliar environments. In the borderland between dream and reality, we can look forward to meeting surreal creatures and solve physical and mental challenges. Adrian Tingstad Husby from Krill Bite Studio explains:

- Among The Sleep focuses heavily on exploration and physical interaction with the environment. This can be anything from crawling under objects, to create a staircase by pulling out the drawers or pushing or climbing on chairs. These features will definitely use both to hide from danger and to solve puzzles. Many have drawn parallels to Amnesia already, and although there are major differences is that in so far as we are satisfied with. For example, it is also very little fighting and the poengjag Among the Sleep.

Evocative teaser. Expand
International attention
When Krill Bite recently launched a teaser movie of the game was very much international attention. Epic veteran Cliff Bleszinski tweeted enthusiastic about the game , and the renowned magazine Edge were among the first sites that noticed the game .

- As we announced gameplay teaser, it felt almost as if the internet exploded in our favor. The game suddenly appeared on the world's largest gaming sites, one by one! The overwhelming positive attention and all the feedback makes us both humble and upset. It is simply boundless fun and motivating for everyone on the team to see how many people like the idea we have been working on, says Husby to Gamer.no.

It is undoubtedly the special idea behind the game that causes all the attention the game has got, and Husby said that the fresh studio wanted to make something unique from the start:

What if the monster under the bed are real?
- Among The Sleep began as a bachelor's degree for most of the firm, before we walked out of Adventure production and interactive media at Hedmark University College last summer. This was an idea our game designer Anders Ugland was going for a while before we started, and with his compelling descriptions and pictorial gestures, the group sold from day one! We like good game that dares to think and do not reproduce the earlier recipes - so this is probably one of the major driving forces for why we chose to go for this idea.

He continues:

- Since then we have worked almost day and night on the project, except when we have had to take on part-time jobs and consulting assignments to fund break bread. Fortunately, both the NFI and Innovation Norway has been so great that they have supported the project, which is one of the reasons we've managed to get us here we are today.

The plan is to launch Among The Sleep for PC and Mac, sometime next year. You can track Krill Bites blog .
