As I said to Rsmv, this is my view on the matter.
No matter which way you chew the shit sandwich, there's a lot of bronies here. Who woulda thought. (/sarcasm.)
But hey, if the forums are filled with bronies, my stance is that I should at least get to know what makes them so happy, so that I can get an idea of what's what. So I can know what's taboo, or from a completely greedy point-of-view, how I can make 'em laugh and get likes.
Just an example.
Look, TBH, I made my original post after a long and tiring day.
I recently had a massive conversation with one of my IRL friends, and it turns out he's - guess what - a brony. And fact-o'-the-matter is, I know more about MLP than he does, and I don't even particularly like the thing. (Not dislike, just not big on.)
It's like, "Jeez, I've become so desensitized to the whole thing, it's changing the way I behave with others."
Unavoidably, ponies have made their way into every corner of the site. It's naive to say otherwise. Likewise, it's not neccessarily a negative thing, and (thank God) for the most part, the bronies are fairly considerate, and not totally in-your-face.
But it's still a recurring theme that's permeated the site. To argue otherwise is just ignorant. And it's also ignorant to say it hasn't changed the way the community works.
Rsmv did say, "Yeah, but we generally stay away from MLP when we game," using the game nights as an example. And yes, it's great to see the communities' attention diverted to something we all are orgasmic over (mainly, CS and TF2).
But once again, there's a pony map on the TF2 map cycle. A good majority of people use the Mine Little Pony mod. These things are minimal, but it's still there.
Look, I'm struggling to say what I feel, so I'll use analogy:
Say there's something you like, or at least are nonplussed about. For arguement's sake, sex. Sex is good. Most people enjoy sex. Sex is the sex. But if you were constantly having sex; if sex was everywhere, if it had even a small presence in every part of your life, then you would get tired of it. You would be tired of it being shoved down your throat (and that, that is an
amazing double-entendre).
MLP is something I'd say I like, or at least don't mind. It's pretty good. Most people here enjoy MLP. I think it's pretty awesome. But it seems there's constantly ponydom; pony references are everywhere, it has a small but easily recognizeable presence in every part of T9K, and I'm getting a little tired of it.
I am stopping and walking away. I'm sorry if I have indeed hurt anyone's feelings, but I know for a fact people share my opinion. My love for T9K outweighs my small annoyance, as it where, for MLP. But you do have to admit, it's hard to walk away if it's everywhere.
Look, I know that it's not as bad as I make it out to be - most of the time. Sometimes, it's even worse. I do have to admit, you guys haven't been full-out raging at me - you've been a wee bit scornful, as was my original point - but hey, I guess that was a no-brainer.
I will say, though - this isn't constructive, so please, I'm saying piss off in the nicest way possible. I'm not trolling anyone. Generally, I won't deliberately troll. It's lame, and not to mention, against site rules. Of course, there's nothing wrong with a bit of fun, or the odd crass or provoking comment here or there, but please don't be so moronic. I know you're smarter than that.
I'll end it here, because I'm seriously worried I'm really going to make a fool of myself. That, and I might run the risk of being incredibly insulting. It would be bonza if we could get a thread closure, because - let's face it - this thread was bumfuck before I even said anything.
