I agree. I don't mind it, but when it's in your face all day every day, it becomes tiresome. MLP lost it's luster months ago, and I still have no idea why we carry it on. Most people are bronies just to be "in" and other's are trying to hard to seem "trendy".

The fact that you actually like MLP is a troll with in itself, nothing about the show is genuinely great. Nothing sets it apart from the sea of lackluster cartoons, yet it is the fuel of trolls, and I think that's why its so popular. Trolls need something to troll, and a trend/meme is born.

However, this "meme" has been far overused, and I'm not sure why, perhaps a lack of creative content, laziness, or whatever the case may be. I think it's time for something new. Until the minors (97% of T9K) nut up and stop being pony lovers, then this will continue forth.

I just want everyone to be clear, you all are basing your online lifestyle off a show who's target audience are pre-teen girls. Just saying. It's one thing to troll here and there (i had a bronies before hoenies avatar), but some of you base your very real lives on this stuff. like c'mon.
I agree. Mind you, when I say 'like', it's more that I don't have anything against it. Realistically, you're right, I appreciate it as more of a device to make a joke through - more of a meme than a way of life.
And yes, it does seem to me that a lot of people have made MLP a way of life. It is vaguely cultist the way bronies identify themselves ("Welcome to the herd?") In terms of what appeals to me about the show - I just like the irony in the fact that - as you said - it's subverting what's effectively a show for tweeny girls. And to be making jokes outta that is hilarious.

I guess what's made it so popular is that it's so consumerist and pappy, yet contains vaguely adult references.

Has it occurred to anyone that when you tell people to "just walk away" from the ponydom, you are recommending that they leave the site entirely? There is nowhere on T9K where you can be pony free. If you don't understand, then let me put it into perspective for you.

You have a group of ten friends. You are always getting together and doing fun stuff as a group; chatting, gaming, joking around, whatever. One day, five of these friends turn up in Dora the Explora t-shirts. They are constantly talking about the show, the toys, the jokes, and two more of your friends join them. (But without the t-shirts). Soon, everything is either specifically for Dora fans, Dora themed, or has some reference to Dora.

Months later, one of the two friends who is NOT a Dora fan, and has tolerated it up till now, says that he is getting sick of it. He is tired of everything being about Dora, and would greatly appreciate it if the Dora fanaticism were toned down a notch.

And what do some of the Dora-lovers have to say to this? Currently, the response has been "Stop whining, deal with it." and "Don't like it? Then GTFO." Not right, people. Not right.

Also, this needs to be a convo. We are cluttering up this thread.

EDIT: Curse you ninjas. This took half an hour to write, and you go and make it look totally out of place. :D

I feel like 97% of everything in that post is nothing but opinions and stand points. Nothing factual.

I got quite into the show for awhile, I liked to watch it, did some stuff with it like creating an original character and using the minecraft mod for it.

But then it lost its "wow" factor and to be honest it's kind of annoying being everywhere. I actually stopped watching any more of the show because I was just bombarded by it everywhere. It gets tiring.

Vorsprung, I completely understand why you are so upset. As some one put it very well, you just reached the boiling point. I do not particularly want this to continue any farther so I'm just gonna say sorry.

After rereading this thread I realized my action of posting about my avatar was actually a subconscious troll by me. I had noticed people complaining about pony avatars, but I also wanted to have a Pokemon avatar, so I put some pony in my Poke, so it would "fit in" with the new trend. Again I am sorry, and I really don't want to continue this argument, but I do need to address one thing that really bugged me.

Jerzey, I understand the fact that you don't like MLP, but that doesn't mean you should go around insulting those who do. Besides the fact that your argument is full of rhetorical fallacies, you really are just being completely counterproductive to a compromise that could be in most people's interests.

Just wanted to point out that MLP isn't some kind of 'platform' for trolls. The reason why bronies like the show is because they watch it and enjoy it, not at all because they feel like they should use it to make captions and annoy people. I guess you have never seen this before, but there is huge talent behind the brony fanbase, people are making music, art, and animations. All of which are original content.

I can see why you would particularly dislike bronies if you believe most of them are simply in the fanbase to fool around and piss people off, but that is only a few of them and barely skims the surface.

My point is, there is no lack of creative content coming from the fanbase. Do you think bronies would just sit around and twiddle their thumbs, waiting for a new episode so we can all grab screenies and make gifs with lame captions like "20% cooler", "Haters gonna hate" or "I'm outta this thread"? Captioned pictures are such a small part of the fanbase, it's ridiculous how many people think that that's the main thing bronies do.

Infact your point is about 50% of the reason why I like the show.

I love the show and I love using the show as a foothold for a creative window of opportunities. I may caption a picture or 2 but do you see me doing that all day? I spend most of my day either playing BF3 or using the show as a creative window like Katphish said.

...So, we're not being spammed with pony pics?

Hmm.
I put them in a spoiler and I am making a point.
...
Jerzeys point is that all the community does on here is troll and use the show as such and there is a lack of creative content.

Do you see any of that in the spoiler?

Just wanted to point out that MLP isn't some kind of 'platform' for trolls.
But the sad bit is that it genuinely is. Forget T9K, but in general, it is.
It's just moronic to say otherwise.

So yeah, a worldwide community of teenage guys become bronies because "they like the show"? No, it's not that simple. Sure, you may like to watch the show, but don't tell me that's all it is. I love watching Iron Chef (the Japanese version), but I'm not a Hiroyuki Sakai-y. It's just stupid to say it's not a platform for trolling - have you seen /b/ in the last 2 months or so?
I guess you have never seen this before, but there is huge talent behind the brony fanbase, people are making music, art, and animations. All of which are original content.
It's also annoying to assume we haven't. (It's constantly reminded to us by you guys, so please. :p) As I've said,
One positive thing that can be said about bronies, is more than any other internet group or fad I've seen, they are fairly creative.
There's some truly great pony-based art out there. I mean, personally, I can't help but think that they're almost wasting their talent on ponies, but I'd say the same thing if it was TF2-based art and music.
I can see why you would particularly dislike bronies if you believe most of them are simply in the fanbase to fool around and piss people off, but that is only a few of them and barely skims the surface.
I disagree. Note: I'm not talking about T9K, but I'm just talking in general, that a good majority of the so-called 'brony community', or even further, just every pony-related work regardless if it's from bronies or not, is just trolling.
Or Rule 34.
Disregarding that there is indeed a lot of brony-related creative content, yes, I would assume a fair majority of the community does just that. It's a large part of the fanbase. In fact, I would say I'm part of that fanbase. I don't care for the show or any of that crap, but I do think it can be funny to post a pony pic with a funny caption. Subversion is fun.

Seriously, the brony community does do some wonderful things. The (oh dear, cliche) friendship and togetherness they share, as well as the massive creative output they have, is admirable. But a fairly large portion of the whole fad is unadulterated trolling. A man expressing love for a little girl's TV show is the very definition of trolling.

I'm answering this, although it was directed at Jerzey, because I share his views. (I was trying to be not as crass or bigoted, but whatever.) I'm right, though, people agree with me.
