Anyone else play Pokemon?

 I feel slightly out of place (which is weird if you know who I am. :p). I don't play pokemon competitively, so I rarely pay attention to EVs and whatnot. I play it for the strategic element of it. <3 Planning moves, and predicting your opponent. <3 I've grown to be good at it, in my opinion. I beat my sister's lvl 100 team with a lvl 73 Venusaur. That may have something to do with the fact that I trained my Venusaur that high, she used rare candies, but anyway. :p

I'll teach you about EV training :3

Here's how Effort Values work: There are always pokemon that give EVs, which you probably know, are effort values. A Pokemon can only hold 510 Effort Values, which are given by defeating a Pokemon in battle. Now, every Pokemon gives a different EV. For instance, Zubat will give 1 Speed Effort Value, while Golbat will give 2 Effort Values, and Graveler will give 2 Defense Effort Values. Effort Values are cashed in for each level up, and they are also very important. You don't want a Physical Sweeper who gets EV's in Special Attack! EV Training is dishing out Effort Values by running around a defeating a certain type of Pokemon for their Effort Values. As an example: Recently I've been training my Arcanine in Attack. I defeat a massive number of Bellsprouts and Weepinbells to max out my effort values in the Attack Stat. Remember, each stat can only have 252 effort values, and 510 total EV's on a Pokemon. So I will defeat enough Weepinbells (2 ATK EV) to creat 252 Attack EV's. There are hold items that will increase your number of EV's given. A Power Belt will give 4 extra Defense EV's per leveling, which is REALLY USEFUL and makes EV training much faster. Drinks like Carbos (+Speed by 10 EV's) are also extremely useful but expensive, like 10000 expensive. Natures also effect EV's given. An Adamant nature will give you more Attack than Sp. Attack and a Naive nature will give more Speed but less Sp. Defense. EV training is a big pain, but is very valuable in the meta-game and battling with friends. Now I will show you an example of EV training on this Umbreon I'm leveling.
I wanna give Umbreon Max HP and Defense and Special Defense.
1. Breed an Eevee with a Calm nature. This increases Special Defense but lowers it's base Attack, which I'm never going to use because I'm teaching it Dark Pulse to level up and it is a base toxiwall.
2. Pack it with Drinks like Hp Up and other stat raising drinks for Defense and Sp. Defense.
3. First we are going to train HP, then Defense and Sp. Defense.
4. I like to go to Celadon City, where the water is filled with Muks and Grimers. These give 1 HP EV for Grimers and 2 for Muks. Level up your Eevee(With hopefully enough friendship) and it shall eventually evolve into an Umbreon. Umbreon is a very good wall, and a massive hp pool will help it alot. Keep fighting Muks and Grimers until you reach 252 Effort Values. It's alot easier to count these with a paper and pencil or something. Once 252 HP Ev's are done, head to Defense and Sp. Defense. Near Blackthorng city, there is a spot full of Gravelers and Geodudes and Skarmorys. Defeat them for Defense EV's (Geodude for 1, Graveler for 2, and Skarmory for 1). Tentacruel and Tentacool are good crops for Sp. Defense. Get 129 EV's for each defensive stat. Once you reach 510, the max EV level, double check and go to the EV Ribbon lady and she will hand you an Effort Ribbon! You no longer have to EV train and have a monster of an Umbreon!

I never knew there was such a thing, I always thought you just level up and get random stat increases. Thanks David, you know your stuff.

Me too....and I've played since red first came out in the states. But then again, that's my fault. I've ran across EV training and STAB and all that before several times, I just never cared to learn. :D

Erm, the title of the thread is called:
'Anyone else play Pokemon?'

We're talking about Pokémon, so everything in here is relevant. Also, you haven't posted your friend code, so...

Anyone that plays with EV's needs to be slapped in the god damn face.

If it isn't something you can visually see in the game, you should not be focusing on it. It's a game, you should be having freaking fun, not doing random bullcrap to figure out how many invisible stats your pokemon has so you can beat people in online battles.

If you do anything with EV's, I sure as hell don't want to play with you.

In other news, I just restarted my game, since I didn't get too far, but far enough I didn't remember where I was or what I was doing.

Now i feel bad. but technically if you fight any pokemon in-game you have something to do with EVs.
