I have been making a texture pack since yesterday. I will post all of my "attempts" at making a good block here.

If you have any advice, it will be greatly appreciated :D

First thing, look at the stone block. The color at the upper edge doesn't match the one at the lower edge, thus, you'll see a weird horinzontal line, or even a grid between blocks.
If you make a block extremely smooth, for example, you see only one color from a long distance, it will not look nice.
If you don't know how to use Paint.net, try all the features on existing blocks and you'll learn fast.
A thing I've done several times: use a default block, go to Adjustments > Hue/Saturation..., edit the block's colors
