No one ever said it would work like that. PvP shouldn't == griefing.

Wasn't Minecraft sapose to be about collecting materials then building stuff and then it was about doing it all together =D. Oh wait then people decided to be mean and F*d it all up by being greifers.
I can see how this seems like a fun idea to some but myself, I'm worried that it could be missused so much more easily then how greifers haggle our lives everyday already.

pvp is like giving the griefers all the dynamite they can hold in their despicable hands, most wont agree to just break open the door or break a window.

It shouldnt, but...
In the current state, how Notch left it, PVP= griefing unless you base it on the responsibility of the player to return your stuff, which cannot be reliable. Unless there is something to limit the damage caused by death so it wouldn't be THAT much of a griefing opportunity, PVP is quite broken when it comes to fairplay.

I am not against pvp, and dont mind losing SOME stuff, but losing everything is quite a hit if pvp were to be frequent.
Its like losing your gear after dying in WoW or not respawning with a gun in Call of Duty multiplayer.

plus it OP's the players that win if you had any diamonds or diamond tools

thats why pvp is broken! because it has no rules, the same way nobody ever set rules for griefing. and as usually, the community has to fix this ...:csi:

besides pvp in minecraft requires no skill at all, and killing is fast, usually not even giving a chance to defend yourself.
i was on another server with pvp enabled and a random newcomer with a wooden sword could get into my house and kill me in 5-6 hits. before i even realize hes hitting me i lose all my stuff and a more powerful noob is roaming around after only 3 minutes of him appearing on the server. killing somebody is the easiest way of getting loot, so why dont we ALL just go and kill each other...

I'd actually like to see some sort of good pvp mod, seeing that halo minecraft video, I think that something epic can be spawned that would make minecraft pvp more than just hitting each other with a sword 8 times or firing arrows at each other.

PvP isn't a good idea. Maybe a PvP arena where contestant can wager whatever they see fit and the winner takes all, otherwise, I see Minecraft more of a utopic society. Everyone helps everyone and works to improve the overall wellbeing of the community.
