Cities of the Server RATING SCALE

Before I create the entry "Cities of the Server: EagleEyeCity", I thought I would tell you guys about the new way of scoring.

The way it was before, things were a bit to broad. I could say the city is worth a visit, but then what? Was it a "must visit" or "visit on your freetime"?

Well now, there is a new rating scale, which involves numbers.

I am changing the way I look at things all together with ratings on a city. I'm going to be a bit more strict, as back before this next episode, I would almost never go too into detail about the negatives, to avoid hurting feelings. I hope NO city residents/owners take the review personally, and I hope that they learn to improve based on what I have said. With that out of the way, here is how the ratings work:

Each city has certain categories it will be rated on, such as build quality, the community, the safety from griefers, etc.

Each of these ratings will be added up to get the average, which is the city's final score. Here are each of the possible ratings:

1- Disaster on all levels, do your self a favor and don't come within 100 blocks of this city (this will probably never be given)

2- Very bad, the city is not worth a visit and DEFINITELY not worth living in. There are ALMOST no redeeming factors about this city.

3- Bad, this city is barely worth a visit, and you should not be living in it. There are a few redeeming factors, but they are not enough to make up for all of the crap in this city.

4- Mediocre, this city might be worth your time, but be warned, there are things that will dis-please you

5- Good, this city is worth a visit (provided it is not a reclusive city), but is barely worth living in.

6- Pretty good, this city is worth a visit, and is suitable for living in.

7- Very good, this city is well worth a visit, and worth living in

8- Amazing, this city is DEFINITELY worth a visit, and well worth living in

9- Near perfection, this city is a MUST VISIT, and definitely worth living in

10- Perfection (This will also probably never be given)

There will also be a scale of 1-10 for the categories of a city. Use the first 1-2 words of the description (Example: Bad, good, mediocre, perfection, etc.)

There will also be improvements to the text of Cities of the Server in general.

I hope you guys like the improvements and new rating scales!

You should further define what kinds of things you are looking for in terms of build things like "community" and "build quality." Actually, it may even be better to leave such determinations to the citizens of the town in question.

By build quality, I mean how well the building is made. Was it designed well? Was it of proper size for it's role? (based on the builder's preference?).

Community will not be used again after EagleEye. I see it as too much of a judge on the people on the town, instead of the town itself.

Personally, I don't see much point to a numerical scaling of your CotS series, and in some ways it can be limiting. From your past editions, it was enough that you described in detail the kind of architecture and community each city had, and from that information we can determine for ourselves whether each city is worth the visit/residing.

Thanks for the feedback. However, I still do go into detail on the architecture and community each city has, I just don't sum it up on the verdict.

Also, the numeric system was added (as I said) to improve how exact the rating is. However, if people do not approve of it in the next episode, I will go back to the original rating system.

Meh, having to "rate" a town does seem too much like a judge. I enjoy reading CotS because of all the different cities with their own unique qualities. Posting lots of screenshots (with spoilers) and using lots of descriptive words was the best way to do CotS, in my opinion. I agree with lacar's statement on this subject.
I can't wait to see the next episode! I haven't seen any other cities yet excluding the one I'm in.

A rating system makes for an easier time categorizing and assesing value. Numbers are strict, and definite, simply saying something is "good" can still leave room for interpretation. What one person may think is good may not agree with that another person says is good. Giving something a numerical value, at the very least, gives everyone a more exact idea of what the author feels about a particular item.
