Computer Question(s)

what would a good graphics card that wont break my bank that is for a 2005 gateway computer running windows XP and has 1.00 GBs of ram??

You only have 1GB of RAM?
Arc360-son I am dissapoint. :C

If it is a fairly old computer it is probably better to just save up for a while and buy a new one.
Often the time, effort and money that you put into re-doing an old computer is more or relatively close to just buying a new computer and even though I said relatively close, many times you do upgrade on older computer it is never going to be as good as just getting a new one.

What Molecart said.

Graphics cards are expensive pieces of kit. You might even be better off just buying a bog-cheap laptop, for instance.

Yes, you do need a new computer. As technology progresses, that computer from 2005 will become more and more obsolete. You will find you can't run hardly anything at all. Not upgrading now is only prolonging the inevitable.

I'd recommend you just save for a new computer. They come pretty cheap, and look at it this way: The money you spent buying a video card for obsolete hardware just now got you a new computer, with new parts, and with everything up to date.

I'm currently thinking about purchasing a Nvidia GT 620, for my oldish computer, are there any foreseeable problems with going ahead and buying it?

As an owner of a Nvidia GT 610,
Save up for a better card. You will be extremely disappointed.
For the love of God, listen to this man.

If the second number is an 8, it will play most things on high.
If the second number is a 7, It will play most things on medium-high.
If the second number is a 6, it will play most things on medium.
If the second number is a 5, it may play most things on low.
If the second number is a 4, it may play some things on low.
If the second number is below a 4, it will play HD videos pretty well, but good luck gaming.

A 620 is basically bottom of the line and won't do anything better than your built in video can do, except maybe power some additional outputs if you need more outputs.
