Creating A 64 bit RPG. Possible Giveaway to Team9000?

Hello all. I just discovered this nifty little RPG maker called RPG Maker VX Ace (Some if not many should be familiar with this). I have decided to make an adventure RPG, but I have a tiny problem...I am TERRIBLE at making sprites x.x (Like for characters, enemies, ect.) I know the game comes with it's own preset stuff, but I feel like:

1. The stuff they offer is not in my ideas.
2. I'd rather use something created over something pre-set).

If anyone wants to help with artwork, I'll supply templates to help the person out. Since most of the stuff is size-sensitive, templates are a must. If you want to be my artist, I ask that you prove your skill by making one face and character template for any character you want (Anything will do, because I won't be using it in-game unless allowed). Templates will be added at the bottom of this thread post.

If I finish this (Which won't be anytime soon, just saying), I will post the game somewhere for people to play, with credits for all who help me. This includes any type of help someone is willing to give that I need (Like side quests, dungeon designing, Bosses, anything else, really). I will be able to do most but the art myself, but any help is appreciated.

*NOTE* If I reject help, it is not because it isn't good usually. It probably interferes with something I had already planned/ was already given the idea for.

Artist Templates:
(Recommended PAINT.NET or other transparent picture making software, like for Minecraft Texture Pack making)

Trial-Face.png

Face Template (Use for a face; Only one face/face expression required)

Trial-Character.png

Character Template (Standing still; Four required, one for each direction)

Examples:

Example-Face.png

Eight Faces (The Template provided only has 1)

Example-Character.png

Eight Character Templates (The Template provided only requires 1 Character and 4 directions. No walking textures needed)

This seems very promising. But more important than good sprite and locale design, is a great story to drive it. Make sure you don't slack off in that department as it could potentially ruin the experience.

I look forward to hearing more about this as it goes along.

I've had a story stuck in my head for three years, constantly altering and revising. I think the story will have no problem. (although I suck at character conversations x.x)

If you need any help with that, I suggest getting ahold of Godliberator. His stories seem to have good character interaction.

And if you need help with grammar or spelling before release, send it to Vorsprung to revise it. He is usually willing to help out on something like that. Sending out a game with a lot of spelling errors and misuse of words can make it seem like a game that was poorly translated, and that would be bad if it wasn't translated at all ;)

True. Sounds like I might need to get hold of a couple people.

Also, random idea popped into my head. Based off of Edgar Allen Poe's poem "The Raven", I thought about making a boss who is a Harpy who quotes The Raven (nevermore :p) mid-battle. He is also accompanied by two Raven Harpies (Harpies with wild, black hair and black feathers instead of the usual white and caw instead of sing bird songs). Still deciding the pre-battle scenario, but he just popped into my head.

(Most Harpies are female, but there are a few male harpies, like this Raven Harpy. I think all male Harpies encountered will be bosses).

And it is ideas like those that set games apart from each other; makes them unique and memorable. I like that idea, but the scenario would have to be set up well, and at least a small backstory giving insight into why that boss behaves that way would be beneficial. Sounds like you have enough creativity to get a good start, but it definitely sounds like a job for more than one person.

(I find it funny that I'm giving advice when I have no history in game-dev or anything related :p )

Like I said though, this sounds promising so far.

I'll try to make sense of things in my game. Most of it will probably be in a Bestiary either in-game or scrapped together on a MS Word document. Example:

"Hydras are a type of powerful creature found all over the world, from swamps to mountains to oceans. What entitles a creature "Hydra" is it's distinct ability to regenerate almost any wound at an unimaginable rate. This is caused by rapidly growing cells in it's body. But it it were to stop regenerating..."

I would, however, like to add my name into the mix as possible beta tester once you get it up and running. I'm pretty good at finding bugs/glitches and general testing of game mechanics.

Sure. From what RPG Maker VX Ace says, people don't need the RPG Maker software to play the game. I bet I can just eand the game file to someone (like you) to get it beta tested.

Cheese, I'm just seeing all of this so I've gone through and read it all :-D. Sounds like some really good ideas. I'm up for proof-reading, bestiary creation and such. I have tons of ideas and am a creative person by nature. I can also try to help out with back story as I can come up with ideas fairly easily. Like one for your example of "The Raven". Just stuff that comes to my mind quickly :-D Anyways please feel free to message me, start a convo or such to chat about stuff like this. Just let me know :-D

Why is that ew?

Also I need to stop being lazy and work on my own RPG. I haven't touched it since I threw that demo out. I just...don't want to make maps >.>;
I just like the technical side of things more than the design side. Also, because almost every RPG maker game I've seen is the same crappy, default art, default battle system, terrible story, RPG. I guess it has just left a bad taste in my mouth.

Also, after I get an artist, I will be making NPCs that look and act like Team9000 members upon request. They will use a name given to me by the member (A fantasy name; not accepting usernames such as Taco, Cheese, xXxhashtagxXx, ect.) and I will make them say something that the member wants me to make them say. Mine will be named Elijah and will say something like:

"I have many friends all across the world. Can you find them?"

If I can, I'll make it if you find them all, you get a novelty item based off of the Team9000 community. This is, of course, there won't be any issues with Woot for this.

NOTE* This also is only if my artist is up to it, since I won't be the one designing the characters' graphics!

Maybe a specialty item like a smiley :D which is what we all see for T9K?

EDIT: Or something pertaining to 9000?

Not sure...I'm thinking more of a sword called The Wooty. Still not sure what it'll do or what it'll look like, but it'll be pretty decent.

Also, This isn't the best RPG engine, I know, but it's a start.

That's...more or less what most people do with it though. Because most people don't know how to make art or battle systems.

Story is inexcusable though.

You should use Yume Nikki and To The Moon for inspiration. They are 2 great RPG Maker games that took RPG maker to a whole new level.
