Electronic Arts CEO John Riccitiello is stepping down as head ofthe company, according to reports. Riccitiello announced his resignation in a blog, citing lower than expected sales this past year. Former EA president and CEO Larry Probst will be stepping in until a replacement can be found.

That's great news I suppose, he was CEO during the period EA got it's current reputation of most Evil Game Publisher.

EA has put out a press release that confirms this and which also states that Larry Probost (Chairman of the EA Board), will be executive chairman until a new CEO is found. It also states that EA's "revenues and earnings per share for the current quarter will be at the low end of, or slightly below previously issued guidance".

Basically, EA has hit a low point both in terms of quality and financials and John Riccitiello has taken full responsibility and is stepping down. This should be a good thing, but only if whoever they get as new CO can do a better job of looking to the market and seeing trends and opportunities.

WOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOO!!! THERE IS HOPE!

-I mean, may he live a happy life. Anyway, let us see if the next CEO does a good job.
