Elm Creek is an ADVANCED and completely airborne city on the Team9000 Beta server. It is managed by the [[/Neptune_Treaty|Neptune Treaty]]. There are special rules that apply to this city. This wiki article is written in canon with the story behind the city, use your imagination to let it come to life!

Description

You may think upon entering the city through a portal that the chunks aren't loading properly. DO NOT TRY TO WALK WHERE YOU CANNOT SEE BLOCKS!!! The city is located in a stable oxygen pocket high in the atmosphere of Neptune, and is completely airborne. Jumping off the edge will result in death, with no chance to recover any items you had, as they will have fallen beyond the Edge and been crushed by Neptune's gravitational forces, not to mention destroyed by hostile weather conditions.

Elm Creek is supported in the air by an unique property of Lapis Lazuli, which (when exposed to the higher levels of methane and ammonia found in the atmosphere of Neptune) lifts against the gravity of the planet. The lift is approximately equal to 1 Lapis Lazuli Block per 25 other blocks on the base-with a few notable exceptions (see below for details).

Since there is no ground, obviously a structure has many more possibilities for design. Take into consideration that whatever you build can be viewed from all sides, and should be designed as such.

Story

The Team9ooo community's Minecraft server has a dedicated group of amateur astronomers playing on it. Recently, they discovered a small phenomenon on the planet of Neptune: A pocket of breathable air had formed, and was remaining stable. Not ones to waste this opportunity, the small group from different factions set aside their differences, founded the Neptune Treaty, and researched ways to travel to Neptune. They eventually created a portal to the pocket, and built a small infrastructure. After several failed attempts at stabilizing the floating platforms, the Treaty accidentally discovered that Blue Wool lifted against the gravity oh-so-slightly. The founders of the city tested several methods of utilizing this feature, and discovered the unique properties of the levitating mineral, Lapis Lazuli. Capitalizing on this fascinating new discovery, the Treaty built an infrastructure designed around the mineral. They have now asked the Great and Almighty Wooty to open the city to the rest of the community.

Rules

If you want to build in the City of Elm Creek, keep in mind the following guidelines:
# Obviously, there shall be no murdering, griefing or stealing allowed. Also, all chat should be kept tasteful and polite, and any disputes should be brought before the Neptune Treaty.
# Cobblestone is extremely unstable due to the way it is held together. As such, no facades of more than 15% cobble will be able to remain structurally sound for very long. Mossy Cobblestone is stronger due to the organic growth permeating it, and is allowed.
# To avoid the clutter and confusion of some other cities, buildings in the inner city should be kept small and tidy, and leave three (3) blocks between the neighbours' buildings. Remember that where you can build is any direction, so watch out for neighbouring builds in all directions as you build!
# Please keep the inner city buildings to under 4,000 blocks (20x20x10, for example), see the rules for the outer city if you wish to build above this volume.
# No structures save flying vehicles (airships, blimps, balloons, etc.) are allowed to be built in or in front of the Harbour.
# The outer city is almost a full freebuild. Feel free to build as big as you want, however you want. Keep in mind that cobblestone should still comprise less than 15% of your build, and you should still try to avoid other players' builds. Also, the following rule for the support of your build should be maintained at all times.
# Lapis Lazuli is what keeps the city afloat. Small builds can be supported by the main infrastructure, but any builds more than 100 blocks in base area will break off without extra support. Every 100 blocks of base area (ie, every extra 10x10 area) needs to be supported by at least 4 Lapis Lazuli Blocks. Where these blocks are placed doesn't matter, provided that the Treaty can be shown the block (to ensure that the building is not endangering the rest of the city by being unstable).
# As an alternative to lapis blocks, you may support your structure with balloons made of dyed wool, so long as the dye involves lapis lazuli. A good rule of thumb is that 9 wool is equivalent to one lapis block. The following wool blocks involve lapis lazuli in the dying process: blue, purple, baby blue, magenta, and teal.
# A special rule for obsidian structures: Since obsidian is extremely heavy, every column of the building that involves obsidian in any way must be supported by a lapis block. If you have a 10x10 platform of obsidian, it must be supported by a 10x10 platform of lapis blocks.
# Rockets and hot air balloons are special cases. Please contact a member of the Neptune Treaty before beginning to build anything in this class of structure.
# Be creative! Square, cubic, one-material houses are boring. Make something different, unique! This is a unique world with unique dynamics, do something special with it! Simple structures will be asked to change.
# No whining about lost materials or deaths caused by the dangerous conditions of the city. This is an advanced city, and is such because of the inherent danger in building here. Requests for reimbursements will be ignored, whining will be ignored, and persistent whining/requests will be considered trolling, and reported.
#While the surface is not deleted, DO NOT build a bridge to it. Woot has said that the consequence may be a ban.

Ruling Faction

The Neptune Treaty is a small set of dedicated players that enforce the rules. The Treaty is made up of only a few individuals, and their names can be found on [[/Neptune_Treaty|this page]].
The Treaty is very laid-back about their roles. Most of the rule infractions will be given a large amount of time before any action is taken (with obvious exceptions such as player conflicts).
