OK, I didn't realize that X-ray tex packs weren't allowed. I didn't gain much, not even a diamond so much, simply because I kept digging into the side of a lava pocket thinking "Oh I'll just mine the block then fill in the lava with a cobble and everything will be FINE" and then failing my ass off and getting everything disintegrated by the lava. I went ahead and uninstalled the pack because SP isn't as fun as it used to be.

Yes, X-Ray packs/mods are bannable, and rightly so. They give you an unfair advantage over other players that are playing so-called 'Vanilla' Minecraft (MC as Notch releases it; no mods, alternative texture packs, etc).
