I will get faster internet in 1-2 months, our town is getting glassfiber (or whatever you wanna call it.)

I just checked my Internet speed at work and I get 33.68Mbps DL and 33.63Mbps UL...

I get about 2/3 of that DL speed at home.

I am assuming that is due to certain natural disasters?
Maybe depends on where in the Philippines...
Luzon (the north) is the area that gets hit the most by hurricanes, passing through on the way to Japan. That also happens to be where the capital and the center of the wealth is... so it is quite annoying, rains nearly every damn day.
But no, really, Thailand is better off than the Philippines in terms of advancement and technology. Me 'rents found MOAR JERBS!!!

I mean, like, every day I see loads of Filipinos here in China.

Filipinos are literally everywhere. There used to be a lot of Filipinos in my neighborhood when I lived in Saudi Arabia.

Yes, fucking Saudi Arabia.

My Uncle lived in the Philippines until he was forced out due to violence on Mindanao. He and his half-filipino children now live in Australia and they are working on getting his wife out of Mindanao.
