iPod 5th Gen Recovery Mode

Hi Team9000!
I'm currently trying to fix a 5th gen iPod for a friend of mine. I'm pretty sure she had it in recovery mode but I'm not sure on how to exit recovery mode. BTW, she dosen't care if her data gets erased.

But here's what's up.

What I heard is that you don't need to have it connected. You have to press stuffs to exit recovery mode. Apple is so frustrating sometimes >.> does anyone know how to exit?
 
I believe you have to exit using iTunes by either restoring the iPod or resetting it. Since she doesn't care about her data, might as well reset it.
