So I saw this really cool post on 9gag, and I *really* want to try it. If you decide to as well, let me know how it goes!!

From what my gf tells me, it takes WAAAY longer to be able to do lucid dreaming like that then simply just trying it once. Took her at least a year to be able to do it well (the "some practice" it mentions)

Pretty sure you can't just have a lucid dream by lying still. To the best of my knowledge, lucid dreaming only happens when you're aware that you're dreaming. Some techniques I've seen to become more aware usually involve remembering previous dreams and looking for signs that would indicate a dream. It usually takes months, possibly even years to perfect it.

Every time I have a dream where I do something embarrassing or something that I regret, I wonder whether or not I'm dreaming. Immediately, the dream then convinces me that I'm not dreaming. My subconscious or whatever is kind of a dick.

*walking through school*
Me: Am I wearing pants?
*looks down, to see a complete lack of pants, and the school's most attractive girl walking through the hall*
Me: Yup, I'm definitely dreaming, FUCK THE RULES!

You can probably assume what happens next.
Thats pretty much how it works.

Never trust a post from 9gag that doesn't have proper spelling.
'Sleep Paralasis'
'you' photoshopped in after 'Now that you are aware you are dreaming'
etc etc etc.

Mine are even worse. When the alarm clock starts ringing, my brain is like: "hey, why wont we have some music in your dream, with some nice beepbeepbeep as beat? It will sound great!" So i dream on and think something like "yay! Music in my dream!"

Lucid dreaming is kind of boring really. The moment you realize you are dreaming and then decide to control the events with use of whatever you want.. the world you shape then becomes kinda numb without any real sense of feeling.

But if you do want to try it, it helps if you do long, long hours of gaming...

Also, if you do decide that the game you play involves IRL guns, make sure you equip a silencer with that gun when you are dreaming. I've awoken too soon because the imaginary "BANG" is loud. With silencers, it sounds like a "tick" so it's easier to stay asleep.

Hahaha, that's so odd. I've read about people training themselves to do this sort of "reality check" where they always do some certain ritual when they are awake (yes, like in Inception..), and they'll eventually do it in a dream and it fails, and realize they are dreaming, and become lucid.

Well, i don't know about odd rituals. But it helps if I remind yourself frequently that "I am going to wake up in a dream later" while awake. If I don't do that, there's a 0% chance of waking up in a dream.

And the best reality check for me is to question myself, "this isn't real. I must be dreaming"

And Inception is so hype. But if the after effects of a good dream are really distorting reality, it helps its still sunny outside. Or... watching cartoons.

Interesting thing about actual dreaming though, vs Inception, is that when you're dreaming, you can question if you're dreaming or not, without knowing for sure.

When awake, you always know you're awake, somehow.

Let's get a few things straight. That technique is NOT lucid dreaming. I have had a lucid dream or two, and that is no way to have one nor lucid dreaming at all. That is how to get OBE, which is different and kinda scary because you have to go through sleep paralysis.

I have had 3 lucid dreams, only one of which was any good.

The first and last ones were where I realised I was in a dream and then promptly woke up...

INTO ANOTHER DREAM.

The second one was a proper one where I flew around and threw fire at people.

This is exactly the same for me when a phone rings. I will be sitting in my dream then "riiinngg, riiiing, riing" out of fucking nowhere and I can recall in my dream I will say "Someone get that....someone fucking get i-...oh fuc- "*wakes up*

Yes, I agree. That isn't a good way to lucid dream. Lucid dreaming takes practice and many failed attempts. At best with what the picture described, you might get lucky and go through sleep paralysis, although I don't consider getting sleep paralysis lucky. You'd probably just dream normally anyways.

The first and last ones you had were false awakenings.

Also, I've experienced sleep paralysis once.

My experience was that I heard roaring engines similar to a 747 and then felt like I was being lifted into the sky. I sincerely thought I was being abducted by aliens. It was very scary. Luckily I was under my bed sheets, I did not have to go through the experience of the experience of hallucinating and seeing things that weren't there (as in, fucking aliens).

The second one was a proper one where I flew around and threw fire at people.
That must have been fun.

One way I've heard how to lucid dream is to dedicate one specific thing of your daily routine to memory. That way in your dreams you might be able to find a discrepancy with what your mind knows/remembers. Thus, leading to your awakening within your dream. That's what I remember being told.

I never have experienced it myself. However, I would be interested. Very interested.
