[MC] Lioncloud Isles Thread

I'd like to nominate Tsysin as head minister, I hope he doesn't mind :)

As for me:

COUNCIL APPLICATION
IGN: DOS622
Position Requested: Transport Minister
Time with Team9000: 3-4 years

I'm not sure how much I'll be around, but I'm interested in doing transport stuff. I'd be happy to not be the only person in this position. If I am appointed to this position, I promise:
- communication: I would probably post plans here as I did when I built that one rail in Serpent's Pass
- more above-ground rails like the one linked to above: underground rails aren't the best way to get an idea of what's around you, and we don't have to worry about hostile mobs, we just need fences to keep farm animals off the rails
Crap, I missed this one, sorry DOS. Added.

In Serpent's Pass, it took me a long time to really explore the islands because it was so hard, and I think I even felt like I wouldn't even know which direction to head out in, and I was surprised when I found some flat areas. Now that I'm responsible for transport, I'd find it really useful to have a topographic map. Sure, I could just explore but it does seem weird to explore something when you already have a map for it :) Do other people think this would ruin the game for them and would you be willing to enable this, Theo?

Dynmap has support for topographic views. https://github.com/webbukkit/dynmap/wiki/HD-Map-Configuration describes configuration, I think "topo256-noplants" would be a useful view, particularly with the number of trees that are in SP, not sure if LCI is so bad. See also http://mcedu.ca/dynmap/ which explains configuration. I think this is an example of what it would look like: http://mcedu.ca/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/Dynmap-Topographical-Map-578x301.png

If people don't want this I'll probably generate my own somehow with VoxelMap.

I could send you the map and if you open it up in world painter it shows the topographic viewing of layers and altitude for a good idea. (You have to go to "view" and configure view and change the amount of contour lines to 2)

Also, for transportation help, aside from the giant cliff canyon on the middle south side of the map everything underwater does not go any lower then 20 blocks deep, most of the time 30. Here is a picture so you can get a good idea for it. Also, no mountains are stupidly high, I think the highest natural ones are the far middle east island, the west side of the north island, the canyon thingy in the desert and the tall outcropping in the snow.

Thanks, that looks great! Of course maybe everyone else would like a topographic map to be available to them too, in which case putting it in Dynmap would be good.

Actually, I played around with this offline and I think instead of "topo256-noplants", "topo-noplants" would be better - it is easier to detect differences in altitude in the range Y=0 to Y=128, and whilst I assume you can't tell differences in altitude above that, most of the map doesn't seem to be above that altitude.

I'm also wondering if those heat maps that show where people have been spending time would be useful. It would make it easier to notice where other people are if you want to build near/away from others, and make it easier for me to work out where roads should be.

I've tried the heat maps for the Hinterlands map that only the admins can see. It isn't very precise, as it counts all the chunks you currently have loaded. Plus, it stopped working once we went to 1.8.

Can we just go without a head minister (apologies if I missed an application for one) and vote amongst the other ministers if we can't come to agreement through discussion?

does anyone go on the server anymore? It's been empty for a week at least.

BTW: I changed my name again to ChrisTheRPGamer, I think its a more suitable name.

Every time I check my serverlist, it says 0 people are online. Is Lioncloud Isle a sub-server or something?

(You can tell I haven't been on for weeks since I need to ask.)

No, it's not a sub-server or anything, not right now anyways. But, like I said, I lurk in the shadows... In about 6 weeks I'll be bursting forth my sweet nectar for all to lick... And you'll like it.

I might actually build something in minecraft again, I still want to build a proper ship in minecraft (not that the Schooner was bad but it wasn't good)

RESIDENT APPLICATION
IGN (case-sensitive):Ekgladiator
Length of Time in the Community: Almost 3 damn years now
Last OFFICIAL T9k Map Played On (if applicable, See Here for a list of official maps): the hither lands or rather aka the one build I made in SB and never touched minecraft again.

btw because I haven't been keeping up with it, is the server finally in 1.8 yet?
