MGR- Monthly game review. I decided to start reviewing a game once a month, but for right now only free/ downloadable game are to be reviewed. And what better way to start this off then with the game that I have spent the most time on than the infamous Runescape
Many of you may be familiar with the MMORPG called Runescape. This can easily be said as the most addictive game i've ever played. The game is broken into 25 main skills with a multitude of mini-games and quests to move yourself toward the famous level of126 172. The skills range from getting your main level up to weild more powerful weapons to getting skills up craft items to sell/use. There is over 10 million active accounts with over 156 million registered users, and owns the world record for largest free online MMORPG although any user can buy the full game for only 5 U.S. dollars a month which opens new areas with new skills and new quests.
Runescape takes place in the land of Gielinor although there is a lot of smaller towns such as Lumbridge, Falador, and Varrock. There is no real storyline, nut you can techinically "beat" the game by getting a 99 skill level in every skill and completing every quest. There is many other aspects of the game such as PKing and trading which can be done forever as much as you like. The combat skills are broken into 3 main groups: Melee, range, and magic. Melee has 2 different skills callened Attack and strength. All these are incorporated into the defence skill. There are thousands of combinations because each skill goes to 99 and the player can rank up however he/she/it likes. There are others skills, but the game is always being updated and items are always lowering and going up in price. But the most expensive item is a Christmas cracker (not a holiday cracker) and when opened a party hat appears which is about 2 billion coins (A whole fucking lot of coins) There are many other expensive items which are very desirable for many players. The biggest update in my opinion was the removal of the Wilderness and the free trade updates which cause widespread rioting mostly on world 66. Pretty much any update they release pisses off their users.
The time that can be spent in this game is through the roof because of the obscene amount of stuff to do. Overall i would recommend this game to anybody who likes MMORPG's. Believe me the experience iv'e gained from this set the tone for other online games I have played after the end of my runescape days.
