If true (given that folks are denying comment, you know that there are talks going on) and it does happen, I'm kind of on both sides of the fence with my thoughts on the matter.

On one hand, Microsoft has some smart, talented programmers. Make all the jokes you want about Windows and it's long hated history, but they can/do some quality work. Can you imagine how quickly a true API could be produced under their guidance? Granted that'd be based on the theory that MS takes an active hand in development and doesn't let the current folks just run the course. Given Mojang's track record of development, I think this would be a VERY good thing. Microsoft has been trying to make inroads to stave off the free-source world; what better way to shake that up than a game with thousands of folks continually contributing code, whether via server back-ends like Bukkit/Spigot or the hundreds/thousands of plugins/mods available. Not to mention you no longer have nutbag Ballmer at the helm, so there may be hope for Microsoft.

Now on the flip-side. Microsoft, as far as the PC gaming is concerned, has not been a big name for some time. Which is kind of sad as there used to be some really good titles from them back in the day. "Games for Windows" at it's inception, was a great idea which unfortunately fell by the wayside when they went all in with the introduction of the XBox and associated Live services and never tried bridging the two worlds. Now that they're looking to become relevant again, I can see the desire to be part of a game that is practically known the world over. While Microsoft is not EA, I still would be concerned about how they would plan to handle control of it's continuance. For the Xbox/PS iterations of the game, I can see DLC being a continued thing (skin packs, etc.), for the PC version, hopefully things would be status quo with the exception of quicker turn-around times, better support, etc.

Present promise by Mojang to never charge alpha/beta purchasers for updates to the game. If MS buys it, I'm willing to bet that may go out the window (no pun intended). They'll probably stop support for PS. Instead of releasing updates, MS would release sequels and the like, calling it a new game and charging a new price. $2Billion is no small sum of money. I'd probably take the offer.

Well if it goes through look for Minecraft 2.0 which would be a different game

Seriously? You people think Microsoft would drop $2 BILLION dollars and then drop support and kill off 2/3 of MC's revenue stream?

Probably not for the "current-gen" MC game. My thinking is MS will buy the game/company, keep everything status quo for the current MC game (releasing any presently planned updates as they are finished, tweaking controls to be better suited for console play, etc.), but begin working on a new MC game. They'll release it, dangle it out there as an exclusive to Xbone and maybe PC, but won't release it for PS or mobile for some time. It's going to wind up being a marketing ploy on their part to get more people to buy the Xbone. MS put a lot of money into that console, and they're potentially putting a lot of money into this deal, and just keeping things as they are will not generate much of a return on their investment.

And it is done:

At 2.5 BILLION dollars, Notch is one rich bitch :D

Also, it was rumored that Notch would be leaving as well. He confirmed this - but it appears that notch.net went down - I'd imagine due to traffic from the same tens of thousands of fucktards, same one's who were up in arms about a EULA that hadn't changed, complaining :

Lucky though, Mojang itself seems to be okay with this. They also said that they want to keep their platforms as long as the platforms keep with them.

Not cause he's leaving. He's getting a multiple of BILLION dollars out of it and relieving all this stress.

I was poor Notching at him having to carry around all this stress for so long.
Well....No. He's relinquishing control of the company along with the two other founders. Notch actually only had about 1/3 of the company, so his share is just under a billion.
