Yup, Minecraft 1.2 prerelease is out! Apparently there have been many prereleases thus far. Here are some of the new features (this will include updates from previous prereleases):

Ladders regained their collision box
Vines are climbable when they have a solid block behind them
Added jungle biome
Updated language files
Dispensers will place mobs instead of releasing the spawner egg
Zombies have new path-finding AI
Wolves have new AI and can be bred (when tame, of course)
Stairs can now be placed upside-down
Added new mob: Iron golem
Added new mob: Ocelot (can be tamed for a cat)
Added fire charge (see cacher's post below)
Block height changed to 256 blocks high

Upside-down stairs:

I don't know how accurate, there are probably more things that I haven't found, I'll edit when I do though. You can download the newest version here. Have fun! :D

Stairs can be placed upside down? Why and how?
Regular stair, and placing it on the underside of a block. Why? Because we can! :D
So we can create arches and curves, especially in our ceilings.

Don't forget about the new height limit. You can now build up 256 blocks from sea level, above the clouds.

Putting some jungle biomes in the current world sounds hard, but spawning some replacement villagers plus iron golems should be easy :)
just vilagers. i noticed that aslong there is vilagers the iron golems keep respawning
