The point of this thread is to express your opinion on music.

You haven't done that yet.

I am expressing an opinion on how people should go about with their opinions on music. There's already been a tonne of things said that are made to look like they are general opinion rather than personal.

See, that's the problem: people end up commenting on the existence of the thread without commenting on the actual discussion. If you want to say your opinion, that's totally fine. I just think you should either do it through a PM or post it here with a contribution to the discussion itself. :)

Also, any opinions that appear "general" (if there are any) are still opinions of the person nonetheless. For example, I stated that most of the country music out there isn't that great. It's a general statement. Yet it's still an opinion. On the other hand, if I said that "everyone hates country music", that would be a generalization of what is, in reality, a false statement. That is where your good advice would apply.

Well when I read this thread I thought it meant like fighting with music, so here's my front lines of my music army, I guess.

[song]Crazy train[/song]

Not trying to be rude, but that is solo Ozzy, not Sabbath.

Some of my favorites (WARNING: watch the volume):
Metallica:

Megadeth:

Testament:

Nuclear Assault:

Death:

I am a big listener of 80's and early 90's Thrash, but Death is a little more technical Death Metal for accuracy.

My avatar is Cliff Burton, who played Bass in Metallica during their first three albums, try to check out some of his solos if you are interested. The guy was a hellova Bass Guitarist before he died...

What is the difference between Thrash, Death, and Metal? :)

Also, what do you think of the extremely popular song by Metallica called "One"? How does it compare to the other songs by Metallica in your opinion?

Do you think Metallica got worse or better as the years went on? Do you listen to their newer music? How does it compare to other modern metal bands?

If you haven't noticed, I love asking questions. :p

Both Thrash and Death are somewhat similar, I think the main difference between Thrash and Death is the lyrics, not only the actual words to the song, but the vocal styles also. Thrash is more of a political theme, with Death having a quite obvious theme. The reason I prefer Thrash is the vocal styles, because the vocals really set the tone, and a good example of a band with great vocals is Testament.

The main difference between the two types and Heavy Metal is the tempo in most cases, Thrash and Death having a quicker tempo.

The song "One." Hmm... It's good, not gonna lie, but part of reason it is popular is because it was on Guitar Hero (III I think), and I think that song, along with the album was more Heavy Metal with some Thrash pieces. I don't really like to compare Metallica by songs, I more so compare them by albums; and I feel like ...And Justice for All was a slight step back from their first three albums, but my opinion is my opinion.

Another opinion of mine also, but I feel they have been worse every album after Master of Puppets, but they seem to have been getting back to their roots as of late. No, I haven't really been fond of their new music, mostly because I am picky, and it just doesn't sound the same. They have some similarities today with other modern metal bands, but I feel they are part of the Nu Metal genre which I absolutely despise.

my contribution is /on topic/ and the issue is that it isn't really towards you, I just raised the issue with you since you're the owner rather than just being like OMG EVERYBUD IS DUMB.

And yeah I get what you're saying but even things like "<genre> sucks!" are pretty shit comments and shouldnt be allowed.

like in your thread rules you should say that you can only discuss why you like a genre or band rather than dislike unless you make it clear that it is your own opinion.

I think this would be more relative to sensitive discussions like ethics, religion, and the like. However, this is simply music, and I believe everyone has the right to voice their opinion about music as long as it is respectful to other people (and hopefully if the opinion is explained in detail). I can dislike screamo but still be respectful to people who like screamo. How?

Here is an example:

"I don't like screamo. Screamo isn't that great."

vs.

"I don't like screamo. Screamo isn't that great. People who listen to screamo have no taste in real music."

Notice the big difference there?

The first was simply showing a negative response to a particular genre.

The second was both showing a negative response to a particular genre AND attacking the people who enjoy it.

Get my point? :p

Thanks for the information!

To the last paragraph, what do you think of their song "The Day That Never Comes"?

Would that be considered Nu Metal?

What do you think of the song?

Also, after what you said, I will be looking into these sub-genres of music now. :)

I don't understand dubstep, and think it's a bit stale. I tried to accept it multiple times and it's active attempts to shock me with bass drops unfased me and put me off. It's like the whole song is just there for those 30 seconds of pure bass, making the whole song just a hollow shell of music enveloped around said bass drops. IMHO.
Old school radiohead was best radiohead, you can still encounter the old style in modern albums, but tom yorke is trying to distance himself too much from his energetic 90's past.
Look at this beaut:
