Nether Suggestion

would it be possible to have 2 designated portals, one for entry one for exit, and disallow anyone to make functioning portals on their own, so the materials would be available, while no possibility for it to wreck somones house?
I have no idea...what u just said XD

2 portals only

1 to get into the nether and 1 to get out
no more portals can be created by players

Also, I like glowstone a lot. If the nether is the only way to obtain it and the nether is disabled in the new survival server then it would be cool if glowstone was at least sold at the spawn trader.

thats a minor problem, the trader had the same affect, and it ended not too soon after
Where would the other portal connect? Outside of spawn? That distance is easy to cover by foot. Unless some super railway that connects to all the towns is built, having a portal transport system seems pointless. I'm not trying to sound rude, but unless we all band together to create something like that, a two portal transportation system doesn't seem likely. A multi portal one, yes. That's more likely and have it be a protected zone like spawn. Naturally, the towns would have to fork over some serious payment for something as convenient and complicated as a portal system.

ahh, i think i was misunderstood, i meant like one portal to enter the nether and one in the nether to come back so we could get materials, that could be at spawn, i didnt suggest using it for transportation..sorry if i caused confusion :doy:

Oh, I see. Well, that could work. But here's the thing. Glowstone is popular for lights, obviously. So many people are going to try and get it with the nether being open. Which means those who show up late to the party are screwed out of the nearby pockets and have to risk life and limb to get it. It'd be like everyone sharing the same mine. :p

If we had 1 portal to nether at spawn we could set up some defense to make it safer at the portal area. Maybe have it in a building or underground or just something.

Also, whether we have nether access or not I would volunteer to help out with the megarail on survival server if ppl want to do that.

I'd also bring mushies. ^^

That's what the point of the Federation and the WorldHub is for. ;)

For those who haven't heard, an alliance is being set up between towns for the new server. This alliance, called 'the Federation', aims to connect each Federated town together to promote more inter-city friendliness.
The heart of the Federation is the WorldHub - a large, public hub where anyone can come and take safe refuge, or use the facilities there, such as furnaces or food.
The WorldHub is a giant transport hub, where all Federated towns are connected to it via railways. The WorldHub will have a large railway to spawn as well, making it a one-stop-shop for almost everything you will need.

You are so good are describing things!
For ANYONE who wants intercity interaction, The Federation is THE PLACE to go.

This sounds like a good idea. This could also make having player-owned shops easier and have them get more business.

The WorldHub itself is effectively a giant paved marketplace (or plaza), where members from towns can trade if they please.
Towns will also have outposts situated within the WorldHub plaza (yes, the WorldHub will be huge), where they can keep their goods safe for trading.

I was never a member of any town. xD I was a freelance salesman until I vanished for a month. Would someone like me be able to open a shop in the WorldHub?

How about this, then:
I'm set to be the caretaker of the WorldHub. That means I have no town of my own ( :( ) but I am the Mayor of the WorldHub ( :) ).
I am in charge of the upkeep and editing of the WorldHub claimed area. (The WorldHub itself, for legislative purposes only, will be a claimed 'town' area. However, its preferences will allow people to activate switches and stuff, just not grief or open chests.) But I'll need assistants.
Maybe you could become one of my assistants? You could be in charge of managing the funds. How it works is that the WorldHub is funded by all the Federated towns, who contribute to its building efforts. (You can manage that. ;) ) Then, once it's done, I'll put into motion the plans I have to make profit outta it.

The claimed area will be massive, right? The plan is to completely hollow out the area below the claimed area to bedrock. Then, the train systems are installed.
But we won't need all that space underground just for railways. I plan on using a lot of that empty underground space to build a massive, self-harvesting wheat farm concept I call 'The Wheat Stack', which will provide enough food and seeds to the towns and general populace forever. Then, you can help me keep track of all this wheat, that we will put in vaults under WorldHub.

Interested?

Either that, or I'll let you have a special shop in the WorldHub.

All arguments aside, Woot is unlikely to enable the nether either way. All it will do is create more work and problems.
