Also, discuss if the hype this movie is getting will just be another avatar or it will be movie of the year.

They have to pull it off right. This could go well, or it could be avatar (which, for those of you who haven't seen it in 2D, sucks. It relied waaaay too much on the new 3D technology for it to be any good behind the mask.)

Although I could not watch the original alien movie when it was released and it's sequels to either not being born or being to young, when I watched the first alien movie later in life, I proceeded to shat bricks multiple times and fell in love with the series and sci-fi as a result quickly realised that the Alien series revolutionised the sci-fi genre up to today. I hope that Prometheus will captivate that feeling for the movie and will not turn out to be a colossal failure.

I don't think this story will have enough depth to really captivate the audience. Looks more like one of those movies you sit through just for the sake of sitting through... like Final Fantasy : Spirits thingamabob

The only movie that does have depth to me is "no country for old men" or if you want aliens and other fantasy things.... "District 9" and I hope this movie Protossmeous will do the same.

One things for certain though. Still a better love story than Twilight.

when i first saw this trailer on tv i wasn't really paying attention. but when it got to the end of the trailer and that music started playing it got my attention. that music gives me goosebumps whether it is playing in the background of a horror movie or even if it i playing in the background of cartoon G rated movie. i dno't know why but it does.

in the trailer when that person through that floating sphere with the red lasers down through the tunnel, it reminded my of when mr. incredible was hiding behind the skeleton of gazerbeam in the disney pixar movie, "The Incredibles".

While I generally bash and/or loathe Hollywood these days for their lack of originality (i.e. let's reboot Spiderman, let's reboot this, let's do a prequel to this) this is one prequal I've been jonesin' for ever since I first heard whisperings of it. For me, Ridley is one of those directors who can just do no wrong, ala Whedon, etc. I'm hoping it's even halfway as good of a story-arc to the Alien series that I'm expecting it to be. Ever since I saw Alient, I've had an aching curiosity to the story/timeline that led up to that initial discovery. Who the Space Jockeys are, possibly how/why the entire Alien species started, etc. You better be believe my ass will be in the theater opening weekend, which does not happen very often for me.

This is exactly how you don't make a movie trailer, regardless of how pretty it looks. I hate it when movie trailers basically tell you the plot of the film. It really takes away from the experience.

It seems that this movie will be somewhat of a prequel to Alien, which is interesting. The production value looks quite high and this trailer looks slick. I may have to see it when it comes out.

Well, yes and no. But it does still leaves plenty of questions in the minds of those folks like me who've been hoping for a tie-in to explain Alien for some time. I was reading a forum about a 1 second clip from one of the trailers that appears to show multiple space jockies. Folks are flooding with all kinds of guesses from them being digital projections/previous recording from the craft they find to it being part of the human crew who've been mutated as a result with their contact with the slime stuff they find.

Ridley was intially pretty hush on Prometheus as to whether it was a prequal, canon to the original Alien universe, or something entirely different. Obviously the trailers make for a definitive answer to that and do possibly give away some of the plot, but there's plenty of areas to fill and answers to questions we may not have even thought about prior. I had read an article somewhere that Ridley had noted that it'd be possible to be several Prometheus films. I don't believe based of the same crew, but perhaps a deeper sub-story arc or something. I guess the success of this one may drive whether that happens or not, personally I'll be happy with just the first one. Thinking I'll go see it at the movie and then come home and watch Alien to see how it all ties in

Essentially it is the first Aliens movie remade with CG and different actors that I haven't heard of. That is what I got from the trailer.

Prequel.

The ship which crashes (or tries to leave) at the near end of the trailer is the ship in which Nostromos tried to survey looking for the source of the signal.

I'm picking up that the crew of the ship had something to do with the way the Aliens evolved.
