I would rather not say. It isn't up to me and I am not referring to myself since I have caused trouble and don't get along with some. I could see some controversy with who gets modded and what not. Plus most people on the forums have problems with at least one other person. Either way kick and mute privileges seem pretty low risk to me.
I think that is all that is needed. They wouldn't let people go on a banning spree of anybody they have ever had a feud with, no insanity like that. We had a talk about on the survival server, and we agreed that we couldn't just attack at anybody we didn't like.

I don't think ban is really needed. It allows too much for issues of banning sprees when people get frustrated.
I guess only TRUE admin should ban. But I have seen cases in classic where there was only an engineer on (lzice) and he kicked a guy who was being EXTREMELY difficult 6 times and he was mad he couldn't ban him.

I don't want the position for power, it just feels good to accomplish things. That's why I have multiple ranked accounts. I don't really want to be able to have the commands, I just want the status.
Again, power hungry people. This is why I have an issue with this. It's causing another way for people to gain status. The feeling of high status in a community is a good one, and we have had issues with this before. Now it's not like I'm saying that adding another tier of ranks would be a train wreck of an idea, but I think you know what I mean.

I could see issues, but usually a kick is enough to temporarily stop a troll.

I don't think it is a status purpose. At least for me, the purpose of this would be to better the server, and to take some of the work off the backs of the admins, I'm sure many of us are up to this challenge.

I can see how, in the proper light, this can be a choice of Scylla and Charybdis, the choice between two evils, with players going mad with power, or letting the server go to the griefers. However, by limiting who becomes a moderator, and by also limiting the power given by being a moderator, the system just might work.

And yes, I see what you're saying.

I don't like being called power hungry. It makes me question myself.
Well after posts saying,

All I want is to be an admin, but I probably never will. So if you consider making admins here, please consider me.

I don't know how someone can not see that as a hunger for power.

Okay, guys, let's try to keep this on topic about how player moderation may or may not help out the server.

Oh yea. here's a pros/cons list. Feel free to add to it in your posts:

Pros: server is safer.
grief gets dealt with instead of ignored.
less annoying people.
Less racism/hitler related comments
less trolling

Cons: people may get carried away, or ban too hastily.
"with great power comes great responsibility" and some people lack responsibility.

Actually, I must point out that most of the recent ban requests are for trolling, racism and the like.

1) Woot already has ideas for better ways to moderate the server. If he goes ahead with those then he will tell us.

2) All of Nuron's points are incredibly true and I second them.

3)Nothing will happen until Bukkit is updated AND all the mods are updated.

It all honesty; I've made a prior post stating my feeling about how we as players feel let up to our own with no moderation.....This is still true today obviously..

However we do need to be honest with each other and realize that any band aid solution will only last approximately two weeks (Complete Guesstimate). I would rather we continue on as is than try to 'make something happen' cause that could be even worse. Most of the current active players on survival (Trolls who have only logged in for five minutes....go Away).

The Administration staff (Woot, etc) need kudo's for being one of the rare places where PR's are actively being played; however the flip side of the coin being that 'new players' are being turned off by their first impressions of what happens...

My personal recommendation in the interim would be to have Tbarius (one of the more active Survival players who is a recent Creative Engineer) move back from Creative to monitor Survival in a similar role to his creative role if that is possible. I think most active players would also welcome such a solution for the short term.

The whole backend to add permissions and actually allow someone to moderate the server has not been updated for 1.9 and is not being updated until the release of Minecraft.
