This is user Sastratan. My rank was "cool". On Sunday, 2012-07-29 at about 07:20 UTC I was banned by user ChibaMasato for major grief in world "fun".
If you do one thing in response to this post, please reply to it thoughtfully. I don't expect my ban to be lifted.
To the high-ranking players who banned me, you were very gracious in taking the time to speak with me instead of banning me on sight. Sadly, my computer was having trouble running minecraft at that time, and I had to completely restart my system. When it was back up, I found I was already banned, and missed most of our discussion.
So, I wish to take this one opportunity to thoroughly discuss the event that led to my ban, here where replies can more easily be read than on the crowded chat scroll in game.
I take full responsibility for griefing the trucks, the Jurassic Park gate, the WMAP mural, the pillar, and the stone cube containing all of the aforementioned. I did this grief knowing fully that it was a bannable offense. I know that my grief cannot be justified, and the server's rules must be upheld. I only want to explain clearly what my motivation was.
I love Team9000's server because of the care the high-ranking players take to prevent grief and encourage original building. What makes Team9000 really special to me is the "Fun" world specifically. Here, I found a world where the contributions of hundreds of users accumulate organically over the course of months and even years to create a truly unique environment for limitless exploration, with a long and rich history to discover. I took upon myself the responsibility of making this world easier to explore by building bridges, stairs, and tunnels. I spent a considerable amount of time and effort in "fun" over the past 2 years, as shown by my user statistics. I accepted that over time, my work would deteriorate as other players built their own work, and the map grew and changed. What made me very upset, however, was when I found that one player had completely obliterated not only my work, but that of *all other players*, while specifically preserving his or her own work in the near corner (on the map http://classic.team9000.net/Fun).
Had the entire map been reset, it would have been fair, and I would have taken no issue with it. This is not the case, however, as the space one player reserved for his/herself was preserved while the work of all other players was eliminated, apparently by draw/cuboid commands. I saw this as a very clear and egregious act of grief against all players who built in the map. This player did not just cut holes in a couple player's buildings like a guest-level player would. He or she completely obliterated all work by all players but his or herself with just a few quick keystrokes. After all the work I put into my buildings and bridges over the past year, it made me very upset.
So, acting in anger, I griefed the work in the corner which was spared the eradication, in retaliation for the destruction of my work and that of all the others on the map. The work which I damaged may not have even belonged to the person responsible for the map purge, and he or she who purged the map was probably not acting in malice, but rather to encourage new building. I see that the correct and productive course of action would have been to open a discussion here in the forum. Fortunately, my grief has been completely reversed by the high-ranking players, so nobody was hurt by my actions. The only lasting result of my grief is that I am banned.
Thank you, high-ranking players, for taking seriously your responsibility to protect player's work. I know I would not have enjoyed building with Team9000 as much if I could not count on you to keep the griefers away. I expected a ban, and maybe it is for the best, as I definitely spend too much time on minecraft anyway.
Sincerely,
Sastratan
