Sheep Pen Designs?

Does anyone have any good sheep pen designs? This is what I have so far:

The problem is keeping them in while giving myself access. I can't figure that out yet. They seem to be able to climb ladders, and I've heard that fences don't work 100% of the time.

I don't think there is a 100% fool-proof way of having perfect access to your animals while also keeping them safe/alive. Technically, the safest way would probably be to have a set of very short ladders connected to platforms leading to another set of ladders. That way, if the sheep climbed up the first set and fell down they wouldn't take any damage and they are extremely unlikely to make it to the second set of ladders. I haven't actually tried this, but it's the best I've come up with so far.

What we have in Cydonia is a 2 stage door. You go through a door, into a central area, then close the door behind you. Then you walk forward and open the next door, and go into the actual pen. Close that door behind you after pushing any sheep back in.

I dont understand why sheep are such a big problem...

People run into problems because they try to make them open on top.

Hollow out a cube underground. make a 2x2 tunnel to the surface. Place water going down from the 2x2 tunnel with signs for air. Use wheat to lure the sheep into the whole, and they float down into your container.

Giving yourself access to it? Try a door. they come in handy sometimes. Just remember to close it behind you.

You are all way over-thinking sheep pen designs. Revert to basics. A completely enclosed area with a roof.

I will take on any other design issues you are having.

Actually, you can :) I am using water ladders from under the pens, which gives nice access (and water to sheep!) and cant be bypassed by sheep as they are not good divers.

Do doors actually work for you? When we had doors, the sheep would just glitch through them over time.

Water ladders! I can't believe I didn't think of that! Time to redesign our sheep pen!

There are many ways to prevent that glitch from happening. One way is using sticky pistons. You can make a solid stone door with buttons that open it.

Put a moat of water on the inside lining the fence. Apparently that's supposed to be full proof or as close to it as you can get.
