So I hear extreme Prejudice and Stereotyping has hit our server.

All people under 13 years old get banned from minecraft survival.

I asked why, and I simply got "Because they're all griefers and noobs."

That's unacceptable. This is a low for us. Because a few kids, more like people, because we dont know if they're kids, grief a server, and that means we ban them all, is excluding them. There are probably several kids under 13 who play on our server to have fun, and now they're all getting banned.

If this is just something I heard, and this really isn't true, then good. But if this is true, and it really is happening, this is bad. So I protest this new horrible rule.

I'm more surprised at the answer Mariolink got, because that's just the wrong answer.

Post a clear and comprehensive privacy policy on their website describing their information practices for children’s personal information;
Provide direct notice to parents and obtain verifiable parental consent, with limited exceptions, before collecting personal information from children;

You should probably do that.

Give parents the choice of consenting to the operator’s collection and internal use of a child’s information, but prohibiting the operator from disclosing that information to third parties;

And that.

Provide parents access to their child’s personal information to review and/or have the information deleted;

And that.

Give parents the opportunity to prevent further use or online collection of a child’s personal information;

And that.

Maintain the confidentiality, security, and integrity of information they collect from children.

And that.

You could make a parents tab. Perhaps parents could look at the server log, and find their child in it and track them. Something like a parent account. Any lying parent account = ban.

Probably rather than wishing to comply with all of that, he just bans anyone under the age of 13. It is, afterall, his website on his server so he has the right to do just that. You may find the law/rule unfair but (I don't mean to be cliche) that is life: unfair. If you're under the age of 13 and want to come to this site, feel free, but you will be banned if it is found out you are younger than that age. That is a risk you are taking.

Sorry you replied before editing my post, I am now negotiating something we can do to not make 12> year olds banned. I will not accept that it will be a risk.

Just out of curiosity, would the under 13 player be unbanned when they turned 13, or remain banned for breaking the rules before reaching that age?

I am not a babysitter, and I have no intention to spend my time setting up and handling faxed letters from concerned parents.

I have to side with Wooty on this one. It's not about being "lazy". A lot of work and overhead would be required to allow this change. People are busy and have priorities. If it were a service that generates a lot of money that would be different..

It would be better for our community,
So letting 13 year old kids with high pitched voices making random threads and asking for a promotion every 10 seconds while annoying other people and not making any conversation serious is apparently better for the community?

Ha.

Kind of misses the point, but those types of people are annoying. Impressively, they always seem to be able to convey their high pitched voices in text.
