While I love 1.6, i feel like the actual ability compete on a real level wouldn't be attainable...don't stretch yourself too thin. Pick a place, start there, produce results, then expand.

good point. I guess we wouldn't exactly [compete/i] so much as just screw around, but with the added bonus of teamwork. I just happen to prefer 5v5 over big-team games, so i just jumped straight to that :p

Can Steam even do sub-groups? That would be handy.
I seriously don't know, and don't have the time (nor want) to go looking for a sub-group capability. But it would be handy.
Speaking of which - Pl4t0, we haven't played TF2 yet.

Yeah... But I was thinking about setting up an exclusive TF2 group. Maybe as a sub-group? I dunno.
Well...Won't we become

What would be the benefit of making a second group?? I'm still not seeing the pluses here. Its just more complex. Could someone spell this out for me?

If this were just about organizing a few events here and there, you're correct, we wouldn't need a second group. But unless Steam has some hidden capabilities I am unaware of, this is the only way to put a stamp on your profile that says "I am involved in this" and comes with all the bells and whistles of Steam groups. I guess it's more just an identification thing - we can say that these people are on our "____" A-team, and are actually somewhat dedicated to it, not just "Maybe I'll show up and play a round on community game night every few weeks".

When PC Gamer or Rock,Paper,Shotgun has group-wide events, I tend to get really dismissive - but when part of a smaller, more core and elite group that has a real purpose to its events, getting an event notice about a practice session or whatever carries much greater weight.

And don't worry, that main group isn't going anywhere, and like I said the extra group(s?) will be more about identification than being an actual spin-off group in any sense - i'm sure we'll still do community-wide stuff, and as that comes to pass we'll use the main group's event notice system.

Pl4t0, we haven't played TF2 yet.

This must be rectified.

I can teach Engy, Pyro and Medic. I'm not claiming to be any good at TF2, though... I just enjoy it.

Well when the mumble changes are made, we could utilise the custom rooms for each individual group/sub group as a chat room.

Also due to the flaw that steam groups are only available to people who have bought a game on steam and that some people such as me for example would not be able to partake in said group for that, so maybe a alternative to steam groups?

RPS has 10,543 members, PC Gamer has like 5800...we have 358 members. While I approve of your immediate optimisim, atm, I'm just spreading the word of caution, that it may unnecessary and confusing. Just saying.
