Don't do /spawn from your base when you are a heatscar spider, as you will fall through spawn as the chunks load and will die most of the time (I did manage to survive it once, but it's not worth it). I don't know if any other mobs do this, so try to be in human form if teleporting.
 
Also, if for some reason you're going to use the OpenBlock Item Dropper, don't. Once you power it with redstone, it will kick you off the server, and it ends up doing nothing. You can rejoin the server with no problem though, at least, I did.
