The Server is Dying

Hence!
Team9000 has no reason to be so incredibly melodramatic.
Seems like all that's happened is that we've lost a lot of our longstanding members, not that the server's desiccating.

IF you recall from the mumble meeting a few weeks ago, those who are epic/pro rank in Classic will be given moderator priviliges in SMP, it's only a matter of time for Wooty and Ozy to get the coding down so those player only have mod access, and not total access to everything like Wooty or Ozy have. Obviously, the both of them are at E3 right now, having a blast, so it probably won't be until sometime towards the second half of the month at the earliest that will be implemented.

As far as how things are going in the server, I think it's a natural progression of things. People come and go, especially when it comes to gaming. New games will come out and distract players and cause them to ignore their previous games. I'm just as guilty of such a thing. I haven't touched my 360 in MONTHS since I found T9K and Minecraft. I think Wooty posted a thread about this a few months ago how minecraft is like any other game, and over time it will lose its attraction and people will move on. Whether those people move on to other games and drag other T9Kers with them, or if they just leave altogether is up to that individual.

Wait, Tshinotu isn't epic/pro right? If he is, I'm going to get banned for "douchiness"

He isn't going to be given mod powers in SMP on this server. He may be mod on some other servers others within T9K have created, but as long as he isn't Epic rank, then he isn't going to be a mod in Beta.

Everyone I used to know left. Of course, I left for a long time then returned due to boredom. Old players returning to T9K = :D

Wow...finally, ive been waiting for this thread.
Something i have noticed in this is the word oxytown from xraptor. how it was the first. it was the start of team9000 survival.
Well shocking enough oxytown wasnt the first, not even close, Go way back, back to when team9000 was a community not a priority, go back to firethorn, monsters, no greifers, amazing community, laughs every time you got on, a adventure and more or less a actual survival server, where you made a base and you thought this is amazing and you stayed away from everyone, slowly building up your iron, making that long track undergroun, that took you weeks to build, and you go down it thinking "wow i mined all this?" and throughout that time you talked to some of the greatest people through mumble or game, and late at night when Wooty got on and then you see casham conrod "Wooty" account, tofurkey, the whole gang, and you all went and did something fun as a server, not as a higher up ranked group, you did it for fun and took your time and thought, "could this get any better?", then you hear of the word beta, beta this beta that and you think oh no change, i dont want anything to change from this, and after you hear "its gonna be great" and you think "yea its gonna be amazing" and 1 week into beta your like we can rebuild we can make it all again! and we did, then a new world and we rebuilt and had a bunch of good laughs, then we had another new world and another, and for a while i thought this could be the world, and then after a month of the same world came oxytown, and you got into your modding and figuring out oh wow this is great! and you all come together as a community again. and you all built up another amazing city, one that everyone saw and went "i love this so overwhelming" , then you think "what a crowded place..." and then somewhere you can built wherever, and thats where it all went wrong....sooner or later new players came in, some that are apart of our community now but think they were here from the beggining, to me when the outlands came out i saw it as the end... then came eagle pass and im like yes our time to build and be the first, and we made a layout, and a system, and then we gave this system into the hands of someone that wanted it there way not the way anyone else wanted it and that is fucking outrageous, you should play the game you want to, not be confined to some fucking 10x10 block and pay 10 diamonds for each pixel you build on. and we almost had enough of it, then came the idea, to go to a diffrent server to build for team9000, and then come elm creek, and this a whole platform made up of rollplay and amazment and yet we had limits to find a block as hard to find as diamond, and find more of it, and find realism, when your playing ina game where stone can float over your head for years, and then it all went away, people looked at it and said, the game seems to bland... we wanna kill, and thus the idea of another server.... and then after a month of two and after dealing with bull shit mods or admins that you wouldnt deal with on team9000, because we didnt have any, and dont, and then we moved on, to a server of a long time friend where you can make anything, you can fly, spawn, do everything, and yet its still all to overwhelming, and then we were tyring to break apart... go our seperate ways, well here i am... this is my story of minecraft....and honestly...this is a message to erveryone, to woot, thegurw, everybody, stop...i dont wanna leave team9000, i dont wanna feel like a traitor for going to another server, i dont wanna move ahead. if you have read this whole post, you will notice how in the beggining, the very very beggining, there was fun
"fun" the word we've all long forgotten, from classic to beta, to team9000.net to mumble, when the only time i had that was in firethorn....with thaproffesor, the old Wooty, the old conrod, the old casham , tofurkey, all the admins...if you get the picture...then bravo, im not leaving, im not going anywhere, others might, im simply waiting for Wooty to release spawn world, a pvp world soon that briggs is currnetly working on, a mining world that will keep balance, a hopefully, mods and admins to keep the game "fun" and enjoyable, like the good old days
like "OLD TIMES"......

I just miss everyone having a good time. Sure, we still do, but it is different. People wanting to be "higher up" than others, way back when, everyone just played for the fun of it. I see what rsmv is saying, and I agree with parts of it. As much as I agree, change is necessary. Without change, it would have become stale anyways. We just need some old aspects back, the ones we are familiar with. Being on mumble and with most of the older t9k members that play minecraft regularly is still mostly like this. We have fun, we make stuff and have a great time together. Its awesome.

Everyone knows my take on it. I am just glad to see steps being taken.

Even if they are baby steps.

Something this server has that NO other servers do is the community and the means to bring everyone together (the forum, mumble, jtv etc....)

I miss the good ol days of firecrotch, where professors ship was one of the main attractions, how Briggs had built a epic fortress where i bunked, where people were all friendly and flourishing together as 1, the time where i consistently failed at drowning fisherman Jim, the resident fisher standing at spawn all day, aah the good times, they will be missed.........

On a side note, bacon is delicious.

"Can I haz premote?"

No seriously, I have to agree with all of this. Which sucks cause I only just got here and I love it but I always knew it could be so much more with a little effort. Times are changing. I am definitely sticking around.

Coming from a creative perspective Minecraft will forever have a core gamer group that will forever play it (unless a better creative, community-based game comes out). Notch knows this, that's why it will probably always be BETA. So in saying that I hope that the server never dies for Minecraft.

The main issue i see here is not that we dont have enough population, but that rather the server has no ability to keep the players from leaving. We have a constant flow of new players which after playing for a couple of days get griefed/bored/confused with the unorganized mess which is the outlands and go further in search of a better place. The only difference between these newcomers and the old group of regulars is that we held out longer in hope of change or things yet to come. Ever since the T9K squad left in search of fame and fortune and world domination, there hasn't been a single visible improvement, and rather things getting worse as the Whitelist has become completely disregarded.

Let's do a classic analogy as this is a topic close to our mindset. The presence of the admins in the first days moderating and catching griefers led them to also get to know the regulars and the more skilled players of the server, which are promoted to the then powerful builder rank which had kicking abilities. When the admins decide they are too busy to do any moderation they take the more trustworthy players to the next level, making them awesomes and admins. Time passes and with the server flourishing without the fright of grief the owners can now almost completely disregard any moderating related task, excluding the more serious cases when moderators go rogue (TheChristHill).
The issue with this analogy when we translate it to the Beta server structure is that in the very first steps the admins refused to take any regulars to an intermediate level which was the builder with it's kicking rights at the time, refusing the players the chance to prove that some of them are more devoted and hardworking/caring persons, worthy of moderating privileges.
- Even the option to report grief is almost removed with the lack of all access history commands available to classic users. Basically there is no way to locally find the more serving and caring persons good enough for the job.

Basically what im saying is we need a RANKING SYSTEM in Beta. It's easier to risk and give some regulars limited powers with the chance of them just losing those powers later in case they go power mad or something.
