Yes, *ahem*, welcome. Welcome.
So, you like games, huh? Did you know that via the magic tubes of the epik interwebz it is possible to pipe your data stream through various IP protocols and cross the streams in such a way that you can then play (that is, engage in the act of enjoyment with) other human beings? I certainly didn't, until I received these unbelievable nominations for the best multiple-player computer games of the year of our Lord 2011 A.D. :
Battlefield 3
The next installment in the battlefield series does not disappoint and once again brings action that changes every round you play, strategic squad / team work to the table, and HUGE landscapes to battle over. That is if you can quit Gawking at the graphics.
Battlefield 3
Developed by Dice, this is the true sequel to Battlefield 2. Built on an updated game engine, the graphics are stunning (even on the 360), gameplay is smooth online, and the game forces players to work together in order to be able to accomplish any objectives, which is a far cry from other FPS multi-player games this year. The unlock system makes the game very addicting and compells users to continue playing to get that next unlock.
Portal 2
With the release of Portal 2, we have been given the fun and excitement we all know in SinglePlayer Portal to play with our friends. The levels are very well designed, and the storyline is great!
Star Wars: The Old Republic
It has all you can expect of a great multiplayer game, and some more. It may be a bit overpriced, but it's certaintly the best MMO around.
Battlefield 3
Vehicles, jets, customizable weapons out the wazoo, 32 vs 32 player matches, and Amazing Graphical Gameplay, even in Multiplayer.
Battlefield 3
This game offers the epic multiplayer experience that Battlefield fans are used to as well as a great social service (called BattleLog). The epic size of the maps and the social interactions make this game an amazing multiplayer experience.
Heroes of Newerth
With such a broad category, it's hard to pinpoint an exact winner. Stretching myself to the limit of my gaming knowledge, I'm going to say Heroes of New Earth. HONE is a great game to play with your friends, and has a intriguing inter-player dynamic. I'd also say TF2, but I don't want to be a broken record here.
Portal 2
I played through and completed the entirety of Portal 2's co-op campaign with my 50-year-old Father. That alone should be testament to its power. The point being that what's on offer here is a hardcore experience in a very tangible, easily translatable form. It still required considerable brainpower from each of us and enough teamwork and duress to break most fragile relationships, but we soldiered through it and will likely continue to soldier through the latest DLC and beyond that the levels we create with the upcoming level editor, which promises to be so simple and easy to use that my father will likely be the one creating levels.
Battlefield 3
Battlefield 3’s multiplayer is my own vision of an excellent multiplayer experience. It is not only one in which I compete with others, but also get to cooperate. It does not simply categorize my foes as more advanced bots, but true adversaries and companions. The variety of vehicles and weaponry available, including a wide variety of curios new concepts which do not involve direct shooting like the laser designators will keep you always discovering new experiences to be had on the Battlefield.
