Too many players

This is getting hard to bear: there are simply too many new players. It used to just be them asking the same stupid questions over and over again (and still is), but they're also lagging the server with how many there are on at once. Not to mention how many people with questionable reps get on. A month or two ago, the only mcbans warnings I'd get were about alternate accounts. Now it seems like they're mostly just "… has previous bans!" messages. Why are these people, or anyone with a rep below 10 for that matter, even allowed on? The worst part, though, is that survival veterans are being driven away by the stupidity of the newbies.

I must admit, the times when I get the urge to build and I get on those hopes are usually dashed by the amount of lag I get. Also, I see I am not the only one realizing almost half the people playing have a "has previous bans" message.

Also, didn't "the new generation sucks" concern this exact topic?

Nope, it covered the stupidity of the newbies. I'm complaining about their numbers, and referencing their stupidity. I thought it was a big enough difference.
Ah, also does woot even have the allowed rep set to 10 or is it lower? Cause doesn't a ban on any server take it down a number?

No clue. It's actually because of woot that I put it as a spoiler called "my venting"; this is a free server, and he has a lot to deal with besides the survival server. It's still frustrating, though.

I think there are some regular players on our server who have been around for a while and then mysteriously start getting "has previous bans" for no obvious reason, it wouldn't be nice to prevent them from getting on the server anymore.

Who does?

batteofomega4 and Shananafloats are two that I could find, /resident shows both joining in the first half of December 2011, and I don't know of either causing any problems - I know batteofomega4 was trying to be helpful to newbies, allowing them to join his town, and Shananafloats is a member of the town I'm in. Some people say they've been banned on other servers for no reason, and it does make sense - there are plenty of users out there who are trolls, why not admins who are trolls?

i'm pretty sure there is nothing wrong with Shanana, he/she has been on the server for quite some time now ;)

I don't know if it's just me. But I can't even play survival anymore. I lag out in less than 15 minutes of playing and constantly get rollback after that. It's just impossible.

Players can appeal their MCBans on the MCBans website, at which point the server owner will be required to provide proof (usually via screenshots) of the offense. If the owner cannot do so, the player's ban is removed and the server's reputation drops.

That is absolutely ridiculous, not to mention unfair.

Huh...thought the vets were either hiding in haven or jetmike's town. :p

Nothing wrong with getting new players. After all, if a community doesn't grow, then it just ends up dying (has seen it happen multiple times). As far as lag goes, they just need to add multicore support for servers... and stop using java. :p

This is a community, yes. But it's a free one, with limited financial assets (i.e. the donations of one very generous person) - can it realistically expand the way it currently is expanding?

There are many free communities which have expanded to a size much larger than this, and there aren't really even that many players on at one time in survival to cause a horrible lag issue. I'm sure if it got to the point where woot needed to limit the amount of players coming in, he would probably mention something about it. As far as spending goes, people have offered to donate, but woot doesn't want to accept donations. :p

Totally agree.
