Too many players

I think I know why you guys would like to have mods picked who aren't mods in Classic, but I would like to read it from you directly before I go assuming things and looking like a fool. So, I ask: why non-classic mods as SMP mods?

Solution: Alternate accounts are assigned to moderators. If they want to build, etc they can do so on their account. The accounts aren't that expensive, and I'm sure many people would be willing to chip in a few dollars.

Accounts could either be given to moderators as a gift for their service, or maintained as property of team9000. Of course this would only be given to members of he community who are extremely trustworthy, but if you're giving them moderation rights on the server you should trust them a lot.

This would keep the inventory's separate and allow someone to enjoy playing the game while simultaneously moderating. I mean, you could still use the /give command and give the items to your suvival account, but anyone being a moderator should KNOW that that is wrong.

As for the idea of someone modding classic and survival: the moderators should be someone who is active in survival. They should probably not be an active classic mod... if only because we need mods in both, and losing one to gain another is kind of pointless.

If I remember correctly, back in the 1.8 test server days a lot of people were saying that it would be better if it were players who are more active on the survival server, since they rarely ever saw classic admins on during the time. They believed that survival players who have been around longer on the server would be "more qualified" to handle the issues that would occur in the SMP world than someone who handles issues in classic.

I personally believe that it would be a good idea, but not for those reasons. I think that having admins in SMP who aren't admins in classic would make it easier on the classic admins, whereas they wont have to constantly be switching between processes to deal with issues and can focus on whats going on in just classic.

Well, I'd point you to what thee_pro said, as that's more authoritative.
I did write something lengthy on this matter, but it's irrelevant.
Long and short of it is:
> People who play Survival more often are more qualified for the role, regardless of lack of prior experience moderating.
> SMP players also deserve a chance to give back to their community through moderation.
> We don't want the Classic admins distracted from Classic any more than they already are.

But to be honest, it's kinda got to the stage where it doesn't matter who would be admin, because bottom line is this:
We need more admins on SMP.

If the issue's about having to set up another ranking system or something like that, then there's plenty of people who would be more than happy to set one out. Including me. I know I'm more than happy to make sure we get more moderation on the server. If I can help, then that's great. Because it affects me, as well as the other denizens of the server, primarily.

I know it's a significant trust issue to be handing out powers on your part. Giving these responsibilities to people you've never met before, and live in other countries - that's a big jump in the deep end, and I respect that. And it's true you're the one who pays for the server, and runs it, and everything, so it's rude of us to demand too much from you. But the people playing on the server depend on you to set things right. And it doesn't happen all the time. I say this: take advantage of the scores of people who want to assist you. Team9000 is filled with enormously skilled and dedicated gamers who want nothing more that to make their server the farkin' best.

So I think you should consider doing something about the admins on SMP.

Besides the points mentioned above, I remember an old argument about how classic admins and mods would go to survival to get away from moderating responsibilities, not get more. I would agree though about not involving complete strangers. Maybe the trustable admins could find good candidates so they come from a useful source.
