What is PvP doing to us?

With the recent addition of PvP to our beloved beta server, i've seen many changes with the community and with the gameplay of multiplayer.
THE FOLLOWING CONTENT MAY BE BORING TO SOME VIEWERS; IF YOU DONT WANT TO READ IT! DONT READ IT! :D

Yesterday, after a long wait, the server matinence was finally over and it was another peaceful and productive day on Team9000's minecraft server. Seeing the server finally online, I quickly opened minecraft and entered the server, within a few minutes of gameplay, i was soon aware that pvp was now active. After preparing for battle, i soon headed to the spawn to have some fun and kill innocent players. Eventually i earned the title of "Outlaw" which made me Proclaim that this was the best day on minecraft out of my 2 years of playing this amazing game. (Not to mention Ozy calling me a dick xD)
and i admit, maybe i was a bit ruthless on the first day of pvp :D

The following day, I logged in to find that Alimber and some others had also earned the title "Outlaw"; making me happy that others though that PvP (AKA: finding and killing innocents)was also fun :). However, after an hour of gameplay, i soon was devastated to find out that sanctum, one of the most powerful towns and are rival, declared war on us, Caprica, for having the largest population on the server. After this unfortunate and apparently unavoidable event, i discussed with my townmates about how to deal with this and what we should do about it. I soon travelled to Caprica's Spawn
outpost with frescodude(friend and townmate) to deal with the formidable warrior alimber, and some others i forgot the names of. However, with out arrival, we were soon chased down and were pursued until we had reached the safety of the spawn tower. After that having been done, me and fresco soon retreated back to our our outpost due to the enemy having only to find taunts on colored lines of text. I truly think this was a fun moment of running for our lives and failing our mission to kill alimber, however, there was some text-based conflict between our two rival towns between navirio (Our amazing leader) and some other guy from sanctum which i cant remember, thus making me conclude that PvP was tearing our social relations apart and distorting others gameplay.

What i mean by this is that killing others for the glory or even for fun gets people pissed off and makes them concentrate more on vengeance and hate, rather than building awesome towns. I pointed this out an hour ago on the server, only being shot down by one member of sanctum that claimed to be Conrod's second best friend (or vice versa). He then said,"Dont act like you dont play any games" (He was referring to me) - i found this insulting and incovienient, so i've decided to post this as a thread. Also i've had outlandishh explain a large number of rules to me about PvP that i have never heard of, so if anyone could clarify and post ALL of them on wiki or anywhere, that would be great!

To organize my thoughts and opinions about pvp, I just want to say that i am not suggesting any change to the server, for i had a member of team9000 say that admins dont give a shit about what you think and they can just ban you @ss; I just want everyone to realize what PvP CAN do to us as a community.

I don't think PvP is bad.

It's the first day and most players aren't common with pvp so they are killing like there's no tomorrow.
You have to wait some days then this will get more civilized and there will only be casual PvP.

PvP is some kind of competition. Bad language always comes with winning or loosing competion as there are emotions.

The only thing that makes me mad about PvP that players are getting banned because defending theirselves in their own
town with lava buckets against PvP intruders.

You realise this made no fucking sense at all, and yet you trap me in a box in your town and you make a thread about how pvp is ruining the server, idiot.

Touching on what Niamph said. Lava buckets should not be used to kill people in a peaceful environment, anyone doing this should be severely warned. If caught again, banned. It is a form of grief that should not be overlooked. If you with a person out of your town, and pvp is off, just wait for them to leave (they can not do anything regardless) or tell an admin.

But when some one comes to your town and kills your citizens then there is no peaceful environment anymore.

Why shouldn't you be allowed to use lava to defend your town anymore?`As it was tolerated to defend against griefers
before, too?

Because of pvp I quit the server. I'm done fighting a room full of mobswas hard enoghh but now we got people running around killing for the fun of it and destroying everything we spent time building and killing use and flooding our places with lava. My slime farm got grieved and lava griefed/filled by them. I couldn't deal with it any more so I quit. III your a nice person. That's why I would neve attack you. I hope you can bring peace to the server. I'm hated on the server now ):

You can turn pvp off though, so you can not be attacked. If you try to lava people in your town just because they are strolling around your town is what I am referring too. Not hard core legit pvp, if people are massacring you, turn pvp off? I am not sure how that system works, but if it does how I think it does, then it is a simple solution. Unless person A has pvp off, and person B has it on, can B kill A?

Lava buckets and flint and steel. Way around pvp off and on. I keep my thing off at all times. I just feel like the server is falling into ruins just like how that book lord of the flies did. We went from fighting monsters to becoming the monsters our selfs. Lets put down the swords and raise up a city with order and peace.

What's the big attraction of PvP anyway? There's little skill or fun in it.
This is one instance I admit Terraria has an advantage, due to the large and tactical array of weapons available. In Minecraft, it's a bit pointless.

I think people will stop having problems with PvP as soon as everyone learns how to switch PvP off. Bad luck for you if it's the hard way. It's just an additional option and if you don't want it, you don't have to. If whining gets to bad, admins might want to consider turning it off on everyone by default. That would kill the fun for some people to bash newly arrived noobs, though.

PvP is now OFF by default. You may want to double check your status by typing "/fight off" and it should indicate whether PvP is enabled or disabled. If you have your PvP disabled, no one can hurt you, and vice-versa. So if someone comes charging at you with diamond armor and a sword, turn off your PvP if you don't want to fight and continue about your business. So far as I'm aware, UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES are you to use lava/flint&steel to kill someone. This is still a bannable offense, unless you've placed lava in a structure that is intended to burn someone if tampered with.

This is a new thing for our server, and it has been widely asked for for some time now, so it's doubtful it will be removed unless there are numerous serious violations of the server's basic rules (don't be a douche, and no griefing). If your town is being griefed it is recommended that you make sure that plot of land is claimed in your town. Outsiders cannot damage/change/interact with your builds if they are in your town. If you do have builds that are outside of town, and they are being griefed, let an admin know, and they will look into it and respond accordingly. Towny is the new way to protect not only your chest, but your builds as well. Be sure to build within your town to ensure maximum security, and also know who it is you're with in your town. If you don't know/don't trust the person, don't let them into your town, or don't join theirs.

Before the beta-wipe, PvP was a rather good a Idea, because with PvP people formed to groups, build Forts, Castles and whatever, and like this it got even more a Community-Game. I can't go on the server til Friday, so I don't know how it looks right now, but what I remember PvP wasn't a that bad idea.

Maybe in hindsight it was too soon for a pvp status reward when peoples ignorance could be exploited to achieve it.

Good things mostly come with a few bad. I for myself am happy for the pvp-option. And with "/fight off" the problem is no problem at all.

Problem is not PvP. Problem is brainless ppl who kills just for the sake of killing, without thinking about consequences. Problem is when I accidentally hit a guy with a torch while working in neutral area, he killed me thinking that i was gonna attack him, and i had to get my revenge.

/fight off, if u don't want to fight. And please no one run crying to an admin for a lava bucket. If someone takes the difficulty of pouring a lava bucket over you, probably you pissed him off.

I got the first 4 kills since when PvP has been on, and i regret my increased karma. I am just sad when someone shows proudly the outlaw tag, that for me means just:

"I AM A PLAYER WHO CANNOT BE TRUSTED, I DONT CONSIDER OTHERS LIFE MORE THAN FUN, AND I'M BASICALLY GOING TO BE AN ASSHOLE." so, outlaws, GTFO my house, please.
