Screw innocent until proven guilty. These days it's always guilty until proven innocent.
Just like witch hunts in days of old, all it takes to whip up a mob in the 21st century is rumour and unfounded allegation.
Couple of years ago there were riots a few miles from me during which several people were killed and a lot of property was damaged. The reason?
There were rumours that a girl from one community had been raped by a gang of men from another community. Police investigated and were never able to find any evidence to suggest that this had even happened.
Expect this sort of thing to happen more often, and just hope beyond hope that no-one ever dislikes you enough to start rumours about you.
