The number on the homepage is only counting names in the classic database. It's only really updated once per day, but it "counts up" for 24 hours at an estimated rate, which may be more or less than the real rate on any given day. If you want an accurate count, check /sinfo in the server.

I think that one might be my fault actually, in the early days of the counter, it was polling too slowly so I got Woot to modify it.

He needed variables, which I provided him :p
But as we all know, with all the server listing issues I can be rather unreliable.
