Dead Island is Terrible

don't listen to him... wait for the patches, then buy it. Just one of those games that didn't get released the way it should.

Warhammer is having problems too.

I am enjoying it right now. Except for the connection problems everyone is having, and some controls which take getting used too (use a controller), its fine. Very cool zombie survival with some interesting mechanics.

edit: its the bugs like no clipping, problems connecting to multiplayer, and borderlands style "your progress in this game will not be saved" thing.

Sorry I didn't get a chance to finish off my thoughts -- I had to leave and didn't mean to post it right away.

What jerzey says is true -- hopefully, with patches, most of my frustrations will be resolved. However, in it's current state, the game isn't very fun or playable. The current version is loaded with problems that make you wonder --- was this game even tested?

  • You can noclip (basically cheat) by simply pressing Y in the menu. Was this a developer debug setting that wasn't removed?
  • You can't turn off voice chat. Ever. Or even change voice settings for that matter. Everything you say is broadcast to everyone (unless voice is broken, which seems to often be the case).
  • The rendering engine is very buggy, and seems to stutter in random places.
  • And last but not least, the game didn't seem very fun. From the first few gameplay hours (which, I admit, is not very long), most of the games play-time is comprised of little collection side missions. "Find my teddy bear, while fighting zombies on the way there, and fighting zombies on the way back." Virtually everyone on the island has a little pointless problem which you are asked to solve, but I have yet to actually feel an emotional connection to any of them. In most cases, you simply skip the dialog, because you literally do not care what they have to say -- the radar will show you the full path to the objective anyway.

Perhaps I'm simply let down by the amazing trailer released earlier in the year. This certainly isn't a blockbuster, but (with patches) it will hopefully be a nice casual button-masher.

Side note: accoring to the Steam forums, the build released to the public for PC was actually a DEV TESTING build, with cheats and developer featured enabled. Fail.

Oh wow. Cheats? Where? *snickers*

Sonic is right as well, you don't feel any emotional connection, then again, Sonic was pretty frustrated because progress wasn't being saved, because I accidentally started a mission before he joined my game which makes the game not record progress for those below you. So our attention to characters was pretty much non-existent.

Most people want you to fetch something in return for something else, however from all of the reviews I have read, it would seem the game is only that way for the first hour.

However, killing zombies in this game is quite satisfying. I'm not going to get too much into detail, as when I finish it, I will be submitting a review.

Yeah I was gonna say that it had to be some kind of dev testing since I can't play it until Friday.
From your observations and testing I'm quite disappoint with what seemed to be so great.

This is quite disapointing, I was expecting to see major reviews after watching the trailer and the videos of people playing through the game, I was pretty much looking forward to filling my downtime with this game. Now....Not so much.

Its not bad squeebz, I just think that maybe the dev copy shouldn't have been handed out. Its getting pretty good reviews on the Xbox version. Just a few bugs here and there.

Think of this game, as Fallout but with zombies and no nuclear winter. Lots of sidequests, weapons, and character development + zombies = win in my book. This game is a perfect time killer especially for people who like to do missions. There are a CRAP ton of side missions which mostly involve retrieval but thats pretty much the norm.

Perhaps when I get on tonight, if it has been patched, I'll try streaming it and see if I can get Sonic to go another round. Playing it alone in single player is scary as hell though.

Well that makes me feel better! I want to watch you play through it by yourself! I love a good scary game!

So Woot do you think we should go Pc version for this or console? I was hoping to pc version would be not a bugged as it seems to be but I may just wait till that gets patched more.

Then I guess I'll be the only one genuinely enjoying this game.

I think we all may be setting our sights too high. a terrible mistake happened, but its still not doomed. lots of blockbusters came out with terrible bugs. Call of Duty is PRIME example. Homefront didn't work for like 2 weeks after it was released.

First World Country woes
:P

So far, I'm happy with the game just by watching it live on Jtv.
