It depends on the builder's intention. The Crucifix is a symbol for Catholics (Jesus nailed on the cross) albeit without the excessive use of blood.

I always thought the crucifix was a fairly universal Christian symbol.
Also, I'm Catholic, and I don't give a rat's arse about no cross.

I have a crucifix at my church near the door, but in the chapel where we have our service we just have a wooden cross.
