First of all, penis.
Whew, glad I got that out of the way. Now I can concentrate on actually writing a proper blog. So, to start things off, here's a short paragraph on X-Com: Enemy Unknown.
Click here for the game's website.
Game Summary
Threatened by an unknown enemy, the Earth’s governments unite to form an elite paramilitary organization, known as XCOM, to combat this extraterrestrial attack. As the commander of XCOM, you control the global defense team in a battle against a terrifying alien invasion by creating a fully operational base, researching alien technologies, planning combat missions, and controlling soldier movement in battle.

Sectoids: These fuckers look like your stereotypical gray aliens with the big heads and eyes, except with small bodies. These are also the most common and among the weakest of the aliens. Their special ability is to "strengthen" another sectoid with some kind of crazy shit mental connection thing. It gives the Sectoid 1 extra hp and I think it might make them more accurate and have a higher critical rate or something.
Thin Man: Creepy thin men. They're human in appearance and are supposed to be some kind of infiltration unit. But they all look the same and anyone dumb enough to let one of these infiltrate them deserves to die. They arn't much stronger than sectoids but they can shoot poison gas cloud shit that can be fucking annoying.
Floater: They float around, usually staying out in the open like retarded pidgeons waiting to get dropped. Some site or other mentioned that they have a permanent Light cover perk even in the open but I've seen other wise. I've got 70% hit rates off floaters in the open while getting 20% hit rates off sectoids with Light cover before, both being at about the same distance. And using the same soldier to target them. Their only annoying trait is their ability to leap off the map into sky, presumably into orbit around the Earth, before dropping down again somewhere behind your units.
(There is a Heavy variant of this unit called the Heavy Floater. It's basically more powerful than the normal one with more HP and a stronger weapon)
Muton: No, this is not Mutton, it is NOT a goat. It's basically a tank with arms and legs. It has the ability to suppress fire at your units, roar at his fellow Muttons to grant them increased speed, focus and resolve, as well as Intimidate your pathetic excuse of a squad into a panic. They also cary a grenade that does about 5 damage to all units caught in it's blast radius.
(There is a stronger version of this called the Muton Elite. I have not seen on in-game so I shall not mention this guy)
Muton Berserker: Its a much stronger version of the Muton that will charge a few steps towards whichever unit shoots it, even if its not it's turn. It is a melee unit, which means that your cover won't count for shit if it gets close enough to stick its blades up your ass. And from my experience, I have not had a single man who could survive a single hit from this guy.
Outsider: This alien is a crystal that turns into a humanoid alien thingy that carries a light rifle. It's weak.
Chrysallid: This mother fucker is one of the most fucking irritating fuckers in the game. It scurries around on 4 little claw-looking legs like a spider. It pokes your men, poisoning them while dealing huge damage with the poke. If your man dies of the poison, it turns into a zombie. The zombie then turns into a chrysallid after about 2-3 turns. Alternatively, they could just kill your men in 1 hit if its a critical and nice little animation plays showing it ripping out your man's throat, throwing him to the ground, and regurgitating an egg in its throat and spitting it into the corpse. All while you watch on helplessly. I hate these fuckers.
Cyberdisc: They're floating discs that deal a shit ton of damage with its heavy weapons. It can be pretty damn annoying so I tend to concentrate fire 1 round and take this guys down. Oh and before I forget to mention it, this guys has 20 fucking points of HP. That's quite a bit.
Drones: These are repair bots that are dragging around on a leash (Not really, but you get the point) by Cyberdiscs.
There are 4 other aliens that I have yet to encounter and as such, I will not go into detail about them. Basically, they are:
Ethereal
Sectoid Commander
Sectopod
Uber Ethereal
There are a slew of different alien species and they are listed at this site: Linky 1 or Linky 2
If you find my descriptions inadequate, feel free to check those out.
Moving on:
Having pre-purchased the game, I played it the day it was launched and I was impressed. I had fun. I found the game mechanics very innovative and the quality of the graphics and sound were well above average. I was happily training a squad of men, whom I had chosen to dress in the colors of the Power Rangers, complete with helmet and thick-looking armor, and managed to get a couple of men up to the rank of Colonel. It was all fun up to this point, having only lost about 3-4 men.
Then came hell. In one of the rounds I played, in which I had to investigate a huge ship that I hat shot down, there suddenly appeared 3 Chrysallids, 3 Mutons, and a Beserker. In this single mission, which I replayed 12 times, I lost all of my men again and again, even when I tried to move in with tactical covers and positioning. I gave up and created a new game.
It was fun for me despite all the rage-inducing moments that come when you see a Chrysallid spider walk its way up to your Colonel-ranked sniper and kills him in 1 hit, impregnating him with its seed.
The only thing I don't get is how the supposed "Highly Trained Specialists" in your squad all seem to be aiming through a potato with their eyes stapled shut. I can't believe a SNIPER, A FUCKING SNIPER, A SHARPSHOOTER REKNOWN FOR ACCURACY, can get a 10% hit rate on an enemy behind low cover.
I would rate this game:
9/10 for gameplay experience(I may be inexperienced but I've never played anything like this before]
8/10 for graphics
4/10 for noob-friendliness
8/10 for replayability
Bringing the total up to a rating of 7.25
Conclusion: Meh, I don't regret buying it.

Game
X-Com is a turn-based strategy game that revolves around using a squad of up to 6 soldiers to kill aliens. The main objective of this game is to kill aliens. Sometimes there might be other objectives, such as capturing an alien live, or rescuing a VIP. But most of the time, you kill aliens. Big aliens, small aliens, flying aliens, creepy fugly spider-legged aliens etc etc.Having pre-purchased the game, I played it the day it was launched and I was impressed. I had fun.
