what i have been reading on furoms it sounds like its a pre-release that has come out today unless t9k server updated to the pre-release and it is stopping people getting on?

Nope, 1.4.3 was due today but had too many issues which is why they delayed it and will be dubbed 1.4.4. Server was fine until the last auto-reboot. And Sonic would not update the server to a pre-release (generally) as there would be no Bukkit support.
