The game has changed. Nowadays, you need a well balanced team.

Hell, even then, this could happen to you:

Trainer KEY sent out BLASTOISE.

BLASTOISE used HYDRO PUMP.

IMO, Nintendo should release an official Pokemon MMO where the expansions would be the different maps starting from 1st Gen... where running into other trainers is completely randomized so long as you meet a certain level requirement to be in an area. *shrugs*

and joining Team Rocket/Blue/Red/Plasma/IDKWTFELSE is a legit option

It kinda was done in HGSS. :p It does have the storyline of crystal and the following pokemon like in yellow.

I'm still waiting for them to announce the ruby and sapphire remakes....
