November 30:
I put pressure plates in the slime spawning area connected to a note block near the spot you would idle 24 blocks away from the spawning area - or however far it is so that they spawn - as I did in my later slime farms too:
By this time, lots of people were living in Vault 69, which was hidden quite close to spawn. I'd been invited, and I figured it would be a good day to make the journey since I had the day off work sick, so it didn't matter if it took a long time. Tzelmoth was kind enough to come and collect me. Since the world was going to be wiped soon, and I think everyone else had already left The Island anyway, he just built a nether portal to make the journey quicker. It was on the water just on the other side of my lighthouse, not visible here:
One last look at my home:
Mooville area in the nether:
Not sure if this is out of the nether yet:
Definitely in Mooville now, I think this is heading down from the well to the rail station down the path to the left, with what I think was the tree farm straight ahead beyond the fence:
I think that's the door through to the train station, and that might be DutchCheese's mansion behind it:
The town was pretty griefed, I suppose everyone who cared about it had moved to Vault 69:
Here I'm in a minecart, but I think in the end we didn't take the rail yet..
..since I'm pretty sure this is the same job board in Mooville as in the picture above:
More grief, and I think Tzelmoth revealing how he built his observatory:
My fort was still okay. Maybe it was so ugly that the griefers thought it had already been griefed, or they thought that the residents of Mooville would suffer the most grief if it was left to stand:
Looking toward my fort, I think from the well:
I guess we didn't take the rail because it was too griefed:
I suppose this town had a name, but I don't remember it, we went through a lot of towns on the way back:
This section of the rail mustn't have been hit by the griefers, or must have been repaired, but these screenshots only cover 140 seconds so I guess it wasn't that long of a section:
The whole journey from first screenshot to last took 34 minutes, although there would have been at least a bit more at the end because we had to walk to Vault 69 - it wasn't connected to the rail, since that wouldn't be very hidden!
I think the entrance to the vault was via a hidden entrance behind a waterfall. There were lots of people there. Someone was working on a build in there with lots of lapis lazuli blocks, which I thought was impressive since it would require a lot of mining. I was shown to my room, which my notes indicate was at -957, 1416 (and somewhere underground!), and then went off to do some mining to try to help the community. I took this screenshot because I was amazed to see 4 different people within viewing distance:
I'd probably been at the vault for about 90 minutes by that point. 70 minutes later, I took this screen shot:
But that was of the new 1.0 world, so I only made it back to spawn for about 2 hours! I never got to go see what the area around my first home looked like after 6 weeks without anyone to repair the grief.
I think Wooty just sent a message to the server saying "server going down for wipe" and it all happened with very little warning. Unfortunately as almost everyone who played in that world knows, the wipe was very complete as there is no surviving copy of the world
I remember the initial spawn location in the new world was in a forest, some way away from the spawn tower we eventually ended up with. I have a vague recollection of spending my first night in a cave near there with some other random player. I also fondly recall someone stealing from and possibly abusing Wooty without having any idea that he was the admin. Owned!
Tsysin had told me we'd all rendezvous at -500, 500 and establish a base, but I think by the time I got there they'd already built stairs down from ground level and some rooms. Why did it take me longer to get there than the others? Maybe I did something silly like wait for daylight!
A warning to my comrades who might come back from mining to a surprise:
The bedroom:
I had some success in mining on that first day:
The screenshots suggest I probably played for around 11 hours that day. Lucky I had the day off!
