how to prevent people from uploading my files

If the license is clearly stated and cited (Link to: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/3.0/) on the original download page then you should send DMCA Takedown notices to the hosting sites with the unauthorized copies. Try to find the report abuse or DMCA link on each of the sites hosting the files. If you link to YOUR page for your mod and to the unauthorized pages hosting/for your mod we might be-able to help you locate the DMCA links on the sites with your mod info.

I feel the best option is to takedown unauthorized hosts for the files and unauthorized adf.ly links and then post instructions on your main page to link to your page if they want to share the mod. This lets them keep their threads about your mod (Free Advertising) and you maintain control over distribution your mod.

If you send us a link to your mod we can help find unauthorized mirrors for that mod and help you use DMCA to smash those mirrors.

If you found a unauthorized mirror that you have a link for we can help you used the automated DMCA system on that hosting site to take it down quickly.

Your Adf.ly link is http://adf.ly/QxRt3

The unauthorized mirror is a RU site for the thread (That means you can't use DMCA on anything hosted on the site but the thread is free advertising). The download link for the Adf.ly link is http://adf.ly/QxRt3 (Same as your link so fine for revenue). The thread does not credit you directly but links to your hosting page. The site has a direct link to the file (Causes loss of revenue). DMCA sadly does not apply outside of the first world so their is nothing you can do about the download link.

Except for the fact that this thread links directly to the file it is good advertising for your mod.

To solve the issue with this direct link in this you have a few options.
A) Take the ~800 direct downloads since 6-23-2013 as a loss.
B) Ask the thread author to remove the direct link.
C) Ask the site to remove the direct link.
D) Announce to your many users (~16,100 by the planet minecraft page) that you are having problems with bootleggers.
E) Do option D and announce that the next version will be delayed because of problems with bootleggers. (WILL reduce your fan base!!!)

All of these options have advantages and disadvantages. I would do option A or option D if it was my mod because it is the most hassle free options.

If you want to get more info before you make your decision you should change you download link to be from "Adf.ly > File" to "Adf.ly > Goo.gl > file". This would add Goo.gl to the chain and give you demographics about how your link is used. It will also add protection form directly linking to the file because they will link to the Goo.gl and you will be-able to see the source for the direct link in goo.gl info. Be sure to have adf.ly first in the chain and no other advertising page in the chain to stay within the adf.ly EULA)

If you do a Goo.gl post the info link here so we can help analyze the data (EX: The info link for "goo.gl/test" is "goo.gl/info/test")

EDIT: After taking forever to write this post and seeing the damage I would recommend option D and you to add the goo.gl to your link chain.

You could also make a https://bitly.com account and have it record the number of clicks in the chain.
But definitely make a goo.gl link. That stuff is pretty awesome.

What needs to be done for this issue is to get the download links for each of these threads. If the only link is or goes through http://adf.ly/QxRt3 then it is ok from a revenue standpoint.

If any direct links are present that go through a hosting site then post the links here. We can target the file hosts with DMCA takedowns. If the site has a DCMA reporting system then use that.

Links are legit unless they violate the terms of use on the sites hosting the links (Not the links destination). If they violate the terms of use then report them to the site.

Also fox_news is the only one who can request takedowns because he is the copyright holder. I would recommend him to just use the reporting systems on those sites for now and to wait on using anything else.

Some of those sites are hosting the file themselves.

Being quick to nail down your intellectual property is the best way to ensure the least profit loss. It's a constant battle. I would also suggest joining the Minecraft Modders Union. While small, they carry a fair bit of clout, and have a fair amount of resources to help. It's not a one-way street though, you'll have to help your brothers and sisters in the union as well.

i'm in the http://www.planetminecraft.com/foru...te-group-modders-t206889.html?hilit=legendary

the MU is on minecraftforums, and their main focus is to prevent intellectual theft. Just a suggestion.

Feed The Beast also protects members from intellectual theft. The FTB modpacks were created to encourage downloading the mods from a source that is controlled by the mod authors. You will probably also want to consider licensing your mod (by giving a license weaver) to them as-well. The link on there site for this is http://forum.feed-the-beast.com/threads/ftb-central-mod-permissions.3801/

EDIT: Guess what, I am a ID10T for not checking the FTB permissions thread first. :P

EDIT2: I just checked your Goo.gl/info page for that link and have noticed that you had a sharp rate increases after the time you licensed your modpack to feed the beast. Congrats (Also Planet Minecraft is down, might be your fault ;))
