I believe it's to warn others to stay the fuck away from you, as you're an extreme hazard in your first couple years of driving.

L= Learners (You put the big L in your car window so people know you're a learner)
P= Provisional (You put the big P in your car so people know you might be a bit new to it all, but you should be okay)
There's like, P1 and P2 for other states, but they're unknown to me.
They also both are a huge red flag (or yellow) that tells police. "I'm a young person! If I'm driving weirdly as if I could be drunk, you could pull me over and fine me a ridiculous amount of money and have my licence suspended!"

Neither do we, though I think it's a marvelous idea. You have no idea how many times I've had to ram a new driver back into their own lane because they don't understand how to check their blind spots.We don't get those here

Yes. Last week there was bad weather and he totaled his Nissan on a tree, now he has a fancy-shmancy 2010 Lancer Hatchback... and he's alive. That's all I care about.
